A middle-school Academic Counseling (AC) Teacher is responsible for preparing engaging micro and macro learning/academic skills lesson plans and educating middle-school students in developing effective learning skills and habits so that they can achieve academic success. Additionally, the teacher’s duties include assigning & grading assignments, conducting individual meetings with students to help them review their academic performance, and giving them academic advice & documenting progress. Beyond their teaching duties, teachers are expected to contribute to Wellspring Saigon as role models and active members of its community. As a part of an international bilingual school, a teacher is responsible for working with and maintaining clear and consistent communication both with the students and their parents as well as with other school departments.

JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Teaching Responsibilities
- Plan and prepare lessons in accordance with the relevant pacing guide to maximize student success in studying
- Research and collect materials for lesson development as required
- Deliver engaging AC classroom lessons that help students acquire learning/academic skills to maximize their potential
- Conduct individual counseling sessions (15-20 minutes/ student) each semester
- Provide relevant assignments to students. Check and grade students’ assignments
- Adapt and reassess lesson plans to meet specific student needs, comply with newly implemented guidelines or rules, and to update relevant information and include new developments in education
- Ensure a safe and productive learning environment for all students
- Cover lessons as needed when another teacher is absent.
2. Professional Activities
- Work with students to help them meet academic requirements and provide them with academic advice/ suggestions if necessary
- Guide students with academic planning and goal setting
- Analyze students’ GPAs and identify students’ needs, weaknesses and challenges to provide best support in helping students overcome the barriers to learning
- Prepare teaching plans that outline the focus of each lesson taught in the coming weeks (including topics, projects, homework, etc.).
- Assist in developing learning materials as required
- Coordinate lesson delivery and share best practices with other AC teachers
- Monitor and communicate about student’s behavior and learning progress to parents & related departments when needed
- Communicate with parents as per school guidelines on a regular basis, including presenting and informing student progress reports
- Schedule and attend parent meetings as requested by parents or when a determined need arises
- Attend meetings as scheduled by direct supervisor
- Attend professional development workshops as directed by supervisor.
3. Administrative Duties
- Mark students’ work and update class gradebooks, adhering to the time frame laid out by direct supervisor and/or faculty handbook
- Communicate with subject teachers to arrange individual meetings with students.
- Record, evaluate and report individual meetings data to the head
- Collect & maintain individual meeting data required by the department for curriculum review/developing and future planning.
- Respond to parents’ emails
- Contribute to school databases such as (parent communication log, pacing guides, curriculum tracking, etc.)
- Participate in the annual performance review process as conducted by direct supervisor
- Complete all paperwork required for leave requests, work permits, disciplinary measures, etc. according to timelines laid out by school policy
- Adhere to all regulations, policies and other assignments as dictated by the Board of Directors
4. Contributions to Wellspring Saigon Community
- Contribute to the planning and execution of events held by SCC (events for parents, workshops for students, etc.)
- Participate & contribute to school events whenever feasible & possible
