I’ve been longing for a chance to talk about my favorite cafe, so this is definitely the perfect time. It would have to be De Tam, a pretty well-known coffee shop in Hanoi.
At the very first moment I came here, I already fell in love with this place. It is based in a villa near the old quarters of Hanoi. The classic nature of the villa has been modified a little bit, so we can feel a modern touch right from the doorstep. However, we can still sense the vintage vibe exuded from the color palette, the interior design and overall settings. Whether you take a seat inside, or in the backyard, it’s still possible for you to experience its exceptional beauty.
Just like any other cafe, De Tam mainly serves tea, coffee and several kinds of baked goods and desserts, yet what makes it stand out from the others, is because of the freshness in each drink and dish they present to their customers. Whenever I come here, I always order an aloe vera coconut water, along with a small slice of banana bread, which is kind of refreshing and healthy to me.
De Tam is not the type of coffee shop that plays upbeat music. Instead, it plays a familiar playlist of instrumental music, or world-famous classic songs at a fairly reasonable volume.
The cafe respects the personal space of each customer, therefore, it’s great to be here catching up with others or doing some personal stuff. I stop by De Tam every month with my friends to either have casual talks or simply work and study. Sometimes, when we don’t feel like working or chatting, we will pick a good-looking corner to take photos of each other. The view, and the lighting here are pretty flattering, thus, our photos always look stunning.
All in all, De Tam to me, is kinda where beauty meets tranquility and delicacy. Aside from its delectable menu, exceptional look and great music, I always value the welcoming attitude of the staff here. I just cannot ask for a better experience while I am at De Tam.

I must say that I am a big fan of coffee so I have tried countless cafes and coffee shops in Vietnam. However, when it comes to my all-time favorite cafe, there is only one whose name is Highlands Coffee.
Highlands Coffee is a big coffee brand in Vietnam and if you have the chance to go to Hanoi, going to this cafe is a must! My favorite branch is located within a walking distance from my house. I tried it the first time when I was a high-school student and since then, I have become a loyal customer and paid it a visit again and again. Now, if you see it for the first time, you will fall in love with its unique design, both internal and external. Not like any other cafe, the façade of this one is made from crystal clear glass which provides customers with a lively and bustling view of people and vehicles rushing back and forth on the nearby road.
In contrast to vibrant surroundings, the interior design of the cafe will create a homey and cozy vibe for anyone while sipping a cup of coffee. There is a perfect combination of a plethora of inspirational quotes and breath-taking scenery photos on the walls, which is, in my opinion, a true work of art. The inside is always kept shiny and spotlessly clean while the smell of high-quality coffee lingers in the air. What’s more … on the highest floor lies a massive balcony allowing visitors to enjoy a space full of natural lights. This accompanied by relaxing and therapeutic soundtracks are perfect for lightening up your mood and recharging your batteries!
Talking about the foods and drinks there, Highlands Coffee offers a diverse menu at a reasonable price for a youngster like me. Certainly, the signature drinks of this cafe are handcrafted beverages made from Vietnamese coffee beans. With the authentic taste of these drinks, I don’t have any doubt why Highlands Coffee can find its way into coffee drinkers’ hearts after all these years. Don’t worry if you can’t stand the bitterness of coffee because there are also many types of tea and ice blended drinks which all live up to my expectation. And if you are craving for some food, there are savoury and mouth-watering dishes for you to try, from Vietnamese cuisines such as banh mi and pho to Western food, namely, sandwich and salad. Moreover, I do not come here only for the view or the beverages but also for the excellent customer service. The staff here is always friendly and willing to give me a hand at any time. After all, there is nothing to complain about Highlands Coffee as the service is worth every penny.
These features are the reasons why Highlands Coffee draw a wide range of people and retains its customers from time to time. I often come here to study because you know, with the quality ambience, I can make the most of my studies. The coffee really keeps me awake and boosts my level of concentration, especially at nerve-racking times when I have to run against the clock to hit the deadline.
It would be a mistake if I didn’t mention the thing I like the most about this place. At the weekend, the atmosphere can be surprisingly alive and invigorating at night when people come here to spend some quality time with their fellows. With its cozy and inviting vibe, it’s also easy to break the ice with someone you just know and make memorable and meaningful moments together.
As you can imagine, I would recommend this cafe to any coffee addicts or visitors that want to experience the life of a local in Hanoi.

Coffee, come to think of it, has become an indispensable part of my daily life. I do not exaggerate, but without it, I cannot concentrate on whatever I do. I love going out and finding a lovely coffee shop to get my head down or crack on some assignments at university. I have visited countless coffee shops in Hanoi; however, if I had to talk about one today, it’ll have to be Giang Coffee.
Giang Coffee is a hidden gem in Hanoi, it is quite tricky to be found out since the shop is located inside a dim and narrow alley in Hang Trong Street, with only an old signboard hanging on top. But all the loss is worth an amazing cup of coffee there. One of the reasons why I adore Giang Coffee must be the quality of drinks. Believe it or not, Giang Coffee only serves one type of drink, which is egg coffee - one of the signature drinks in Vietnam. Egg coffee from this shop is sublime. The coffee is mixed with fluffy beaten egg yolk and the taste was irresistible and amazingly good with no sense of egg smell.
Although the decor at Giang Coffee is minimalistic: only a few pictures are hanging on the wall, some traditional wooden low chairs and tables, and some greenery creeping down the walls. However, it creates an ancient atmosphere as if you’ve stepped back in time, all the hustle and bustle of modern life are left behind once you step through the front door. Besides, Giang Coffee always has a story to tell. The innovators and creators, the Giang family, of Egg Coffee in Hanoi and Vietnam have made this beverage a symbol of Hanoi. A very popular Vietnamese coffee drinkers hub for sipping and exchanging conversations and also immersing in the culture.
As you can imagine, Giang Coffee is one of my favorite coffee shops in Hanoi. There are ones whose decors create a more cozy and inviting atmosphere, I know, but I just love spending a few hours in it whenever I can. Once the pandemic in Hanoi subsides, I think Giang Coffee is the first place I go to. I miss it, actually.

I’m going to speak about a coffee shop I frequently visit when I have some free time. It’s a Highlands Coffee, a medium-sized coffee shop close to my institution.
The Highlands I visit are very interesting. In Ho Chi Minh City, it’s one of the few coffee shops with both interior and outdoor spaces (I think). Although the café’s outdoor space is spacious and light, it can get very hot, particularly in the summer. Given that the room is air-conditioned, I believe people prefer to remain inside because it is quite ornate inside with all the yellow lights and decorations.
Highlands Coffee provides coffee, as the name would imply (laugh), but it also offers tea and other delectable beverages. Its Golden Lotus Tea is my favorite because the flavor is to swoon for! Additionally, they offer banh m, which is much superior to the bánh m served on the street and is very inexpensive.
I spent a good deal of my college years in that café. I frequently place an order for some lotus tea, choose a seat in the back, put on my headphones, and begin studying. On rainy days, nothing surpasses staying inside a coffee-scented room!

Today, I’d like to discuss GoodCoffee, a quaint and welcoming coffee store close to my home. It’s difficult to locate because it’s tucked away in a tiny passageway. Customers typically request flat whites and cold brew beverages, which are uncommon at most Hanoi coffee shops.
Of course, I always order a flat white, and that is the primary reason I visit this café. Although it isn’t as tasty or sweet as typical Vietnamese coffee, it doesn’t make you sleepy. My favorite. However, I almost always carry my laptop with me so that I can grade my students’ essays in addition to enjoying the coffee there. The environment is quiet and warm, which helps me focus on my job and makes me feel at ease.
All in all, it’s my favorite coffee shop in Hanoi, so if you have time, stop by and have a few beverages. They’re fairly priced, and I have no complaints about the taste.
Câu trả lời mẫu IELTS Speaking Part 3: Cafe
1. What kinds of people like to go to a café?
Well, it actually depends. People of different ages may stop by a cafe for different purposes. Young adults appear to end up in coffee shops, especially those on trend with positive reviews, either to catch up with their close friends or to have some biz talks with their colleagues and counterparts. The older, however, have a tendency to pick a random local cafe nearby to spend the day, sipping their favorite drinks and confiding in their pals.
Young adults, especially those in their 20s, tend to spend a whole lot of time going to a cafe. While some consider it a perfect place to catch up with their close friends, others may stop by a cafe just to spend quality time for themselves, sipping their favorite drink. Whatever their particular interests/purposes are, they all may share the same demand for a place to get away from the burdens that they’ve got on their shoulders at work.

Therefore, besides whetting customers’ appetite with a delectable menu full of tasty drinks, these are also spots of interest to a lot of youngsters, since they can make use of these venues for a wide range of entertainment purposes, having dates or taking selfies for example.

There has not been any confirmed information about the frequency of coffee shop visits by age range. However, as far as I am concerned, it seems that Vietnamese youngsters do visit these venues on a more regular basis than the old. In every coffee shop that I have been to, from the already renowned to the newly opened, it is obvious that young individuals account for the majority in the number of customers, probably since they have a lot more demands to fulfill when coming to the cafe rather than just enjoying the drink.
