Talk about your favorite TV program/ Describe a TV program which has made a strong impression on you. You should say:
-- what kind of TV program it was (e.g. comedy, romantic etc);
-- when you watched this program;
-- what the TV program was about.
And explain why this TV program made such a strong impression on you.
Bài mẫu:
When it comes to a TV program that I deeply remember, I’d say that “Who Wants To Be A Millionaire” is the one. It’s a game show where people try to beat a trivia challenge for a grand prize worth hundreds of millions in VND. I hardly watch it nowadays, but it used to be that new episodes were shown every Tuesday evening.
In the program, there was a different contestant being featured every episode. Sometimes, there would be a special episode where public figures get to compete, but most of the time, it was just ordinary people like you and me. The contestants had to answer questions about practically every topic under the sun, which made preparation almost impossible. If somebody answers correctly, the reward will grow, but the difficulty also increases with each question.
You could not afford to slip up because you instantly lose with just one wrong answer. When that happens, some of the prize money will be gone too. Anybody who sat in the contestant chair, which happened to be called the “hot seat”, was under a tremendous amount of pressure.
This program was able to leave an indelible mark on me as it was so hard to win the grand prize. As far as I recall, no one’s ever taken on the final question successfully. But thanks to watching it, I’ve been able to learn so much. Now I can talk to other people about basically anything.

→ What it is about (Chương trình đó là về cái gì)
And why you are interested in it (Tại sao bạn lại thích xem nó)
Despite not being a fan of TV programs, I must admit that “The way to Mount Olympia” really arouses my interest every time I watch it. This is actually a game show for students from highschools throughout Vietnam to join and claim rewards as scholarships. This show is broadcast once a week on Sunday and attracts a huge number of audiences of all ages. To tell the truth, all the questions posed during the show are diverse and require critical thinking to solve. Thus, candidates must be so intelligent and quick that they are able to get the right to answer questions. There are 4 rounds during the game, and the one with the highest score after all 4 will be granted the first prize with a scholarship. This not only brings pride to themselves but also to their schools and family. As far as I’m concerned, the one who wins the first prize of the year would receive a high amount of money which helps them a lot in their schools’ fees as well as living costs. It has been more than 10 years since the first program ever got introduced to everyone, and most of the “winners of the year”have gone abroad to study or to live with lucrative jobs. This shows that the program is like a springboard for them to turn over a new leaf. Personally, I am into the program since it helps enrich my knowledge and have fun. If I were younger, I would sign up for the game show, and I would definitely be the winner.

Dù không phải là fan của các chương trình truyền hình nhưng tôi phải thừa nhận rằng “Đường lên đỉnh Olympia” thực sự đã khơi dậy niềm hứng thú của tôi mỗi khi xem. Đây thực chất là một game show dành cho học sinh các trường trung học phổ thông trên khắp Việt Nam tham gia và nhận phần thưởng chính là học bổng. Chương trình này được phát sóng mỗi tuần một lần vào Chủ nhật và thu hút một lượng lớn khán giả ở mọi lứa tuổi. Thành thật mà nói, tất cả các câu hỏi được đặt ra trong chương trình rất đa dạng và đòi hỏi tư duy phản biện để giải quyết. Vì vậy, thí sinh phải thật thông minh và nhanh nhạy để có thể giành được quyền trả lời câu hỏi. Có 4 vòng trong trò chơi, và người có điểm cao nhất sau cả 4 sẽ được trao giải nhất cùng với học bổng. Điều này không chỉ mang lại niềm tự hào cho bản thân mà còn cho nhà trường và gia đình. Theo như tôi được biết, ai đoạt giải nhất của năm sẽ nhận được một số tiền lớn, giúp họ rất nhiều về học phí cũng như chi phí sinh hoạt. Đã hơn 10 năm kể từ khi chương trình đầu tiên được giới thiệu đến mọi người, và hầu hết những “người chiến thắng của năm” đều đã ra nước ngoài học tập hoặc kiếm sống bằng những công việc béo bở. Điều này cho thấy chương trình giống như một bàn đạp để họ mở trang mới cho cuộc đời mình. Cá nhân tôi thích chương trình vì nó giúp làm giàu kiến thức của tôi và vui vẻ. Nếu nhỏ tuổi hơn, tôi sẽ đăng ký tham gia game show, và chắc chắn tôi sẽ là người chiến thắng.

1. Do you think most people watch TV for education or for entertainment?
In my opinion, it’s entertainment that drives people to turn on the TV. There are so many programs to satisfy that demand, from TV films to reality shows. Over half of all TV channels these days are made for entertainment, while only a very few are truly informative. I think if somebody needed education, TV would be the last place to look for it.

The role might be tiny, but it’s still a role. Parents can make TV into a tool that helps their kids by restricting children’s daily watching habits to informative channels, besides the made-for-kids ones.

3. How do you think TV viewing habits change as people get older?
The first thing I can think of is that people tend to watch news reports more as they become older. With age comes a need to learn about the state of the world, so many people will tune into news channels more. Reality shows are also popular with the older demographic because they’ve been marketed as “real people doing real things”.
