As soon as được sử dụng như một liên từ phụ thuộc, có nghĩa là “ngay khi”. As soon as được dùng để nối 2 mệnh đề trong câu với nhau.

As soon as thường đứng giữa câu, là liên từ nối 2 mệnh đề phụ thuộc trong câu. Ví dụ:

1. Cấu trúc As soon as ở quá khứ
Ở thì quá khứ, As soon as được sử dụng để diễn tả hai hành động nối tiếp nhau diễn ra trong quá khứ. Cấu trúc As soon as ở quá khứ như sau:
S1 + V (quá khứ đơn) + as soon as + S2 + V (quá khứ đơn/quá khứ hoàn thành)

Ở thì tương lai, cấu trúc As soon as được sử dụng để diễn tả hành động được thực hiện ngay khi một hành động khác xảy ra trong tương lai. Cấu trúc:
S1 + V (tương lai đơn) + as soon as + S2 + V (hiện tại đơn/hiện tại hoàn thành)
