Bài mẫu Speaking Part 2: Describe an English lesson that you really enjoyed

1. Mẫu 1

Describe an impressive English lesson you had and enjoyed. You should say:

• • What it was about
  • When you had it
  • What the teacher did

And explain why you enjoyed the lesson.

Well, I’ve learnt English for more than a decade, and I’ve been given countless opportunities to attend numerous intriguing classes and meet various committed teachers. However, if I had to pick the most unforgettable lesson, it would be the one about active listening, which was delivered by Jim, my native Speaking teacher 3 years ago. 

With respect to my beloved mentor, he is extremely considerate and dedicated. In each and every 3-hour lesson, hardly does he sit down to relax for more than a minute because he is way too busy delivering his lecture and motivating his students. 

In terms of the lesson’s content, Jim guided us on how to practice that kind of listening skill to improve our pronunciation. He explained that when we truly respected the speaker, paid close attention to them and reflected on what they were saying, we could train our brain to learn from their positive features and identify their pronunciation errors, and when we were able to do so, we were less likely to make the same mistakes. 

Regarding the reasons why I loved this lesson that much, I’d say the most outstanding one was that it was such a novel method that no one had told me before, but it turned out to be super effective. Since I practised this technique, I’ve been able to fix almost all pronunciation errors myself. Had it not been for Jim and his miraculous strategy, my pronunciation would never become more accurate, natural and nativelike. 

2. Mẫu 2

Well, I would like to share with you about a really pleasant experience in an English class I had at my university.

During one of our grammar lessons, the regular teacher was sick so the school had to send in a teacher to cover her place. And the substitute teacher, Thomas Hall, delivered an amazing lecture in English about how he thinks we should all learn languages through watching films.

Throughout the two hours, he explained to us the process of learning a language and how films can serve as an effective way to immerse yourself in a language. Basic elements like vocabulary and grammar can be easily absorbed if we focus on dialog in a TV show, and so in the long run, our overall language skills can be improved. This method helps us to learn any language effortlessly and in a short period of time.

At first, we were all sceptical about the ideas he introduced, however, after watching a short video to practice and doing a trial test, we were all convinced that learning by watching movies was not hard at all and we could apply this to enhance our performance at school.

I enjoyed this lesson so much because I find this method to be particularly effective for me. I always felt unmotivated when learning by traditional methods and my results were never desirable. But when I tried learning English using my favourite movies, you know what? My English got better and better and very soon I was able to remember thousands of new words and write really complicated essays. Now, I can even proudly say that I’m an intermediate English learner.

3. Mẫu 3

One of the most exciting and impressive English classes I had was the lesson with my foreign English teacher, Ms. Nora. In that lesson, the topic was a cultural shock. We were divided into small groups to have a discussion about it.

During the discussion, Ms. Nora firstly shared with us interesting cultural differences she experienced between her own country and China. In many Western countries, when people have dinner together in a restaurant, they usually split the bill, and it seems something natural to them. But in China, when she saw two people falling over themselves to pay the bill as soon as the dinner was over, she was confused and amused at the scene. And she is not used to the way people ask for something from her as well.

She said that Chinese people always liked to beat around the bush and try to let the listener figure out their real intention. For example. once her colleague wanted her to return the money she had borrowed from him. Instead of asking when he could get the money back, he just chat about how expensive his new car was and complained about how hard his life was during those days.

When hearing about this, we were very surprised because of the striking difference between the two countries. And then we shared with Ms. Nora some taboos in China as well, like when we write something down for someone in red ink is seen as a curse, because red ink was reserved for messages applying to the deceased.

During that lesson, we exchanged a lot of taboos from our own culture with Ms. Nora and were so intrigued by what we heard from each other and totally lost track of time. The discussion went on and on until the bell rang. And I wish every English class could be as interesting as this one.

4. Mẫu 4

Well, I would like to talk about an English lesson I had online that was very enjoyable. About two months ago, I was browsing the internet, and the website popped up a recommended video to me which was about how to effectively practice English Speaking at home. As I was preparing for the IELTS test which has a speaking test that is very important, I clicked the video to see if there was any useful information.

The teacher first introduced his background very briefly. Apparently, he lives in Canada and has been teaching English for almost a decade. He then shared his personal learning experience of practicing English without spending a ton of money. He said that one of the major reasons why Chinese students are struggling with speaking English is that they give too much focus on reading and memorizing vocabulary. In fact, students should focus on their listening to improve their speaking. I thought that makes a lot of sense, because if I listened to native speakers enough, I could imitate the ways they speak and improve my speaking skills.

The teacher then shared his own free resources for practicing speaking at home, such as watching soap operas like Friends, watching talks shows, self-talk, and an app that allows people to have conversations 1 on 1 with a native English speaker. He even shared a referral code that people could use to get a free 15-minute practice for the app. I loved how he gave lots of good examples and explained the tips in an easy to understand and humorous manner. The quality the lesson was above my expectation, and I think I learned a lot from this lesson!
