Purpose of this position:
The Head of Business Development leads the end-to-end project development process of power investment opportunities in Vietnam. This includes early-stage market analysis, project feasibility studies, partnership structuring (including M&A), and coordination until project readiness for execution. The role is also responsible for overseeing both onsite and offsite project development teams, ensuring timely, compliant, and commercially viable delivery of power projects aligned with the company's strategic direction.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Market Analysis & Investment Strategy:
- Monitor and analyze Vietnam's power sector policies, PDP8 roadmap, and renewable energy trends.
- Identify investment opportunities (greenfield, M&A, joint ventures).
- Conduct high-level screening and prioritization of target projects.
2. Project Feasibility & Pre-Investment Development:
- Lead the preparation of pre-FS and FS studies, site reviews, and risk assessments.
- Oversee development of financial models and scenario analysis.
- Coordinate with internal teams (legal, finance, technical) for project appraisal.
3. Partnerships, Deal Structuring & M&A:
- Develop and negotiate project development agreements (PDA), MOUs, NDAs, and JV contracts.
- Manage due diligence processes for M&A, investment, or co-development opportunities.
- Interface with external advisors and group-level investment teams.
4. Project Preparation & Handover to Execution:
- Coordinate land acquisition, permits, grid connection approvals with relevant authorities.
- Work with technical consultants and internal stakeholders to ensure project bankability.
- Handover ready-to-build projects to Project Management Department.
5. Oversight of Onsite & Offsite BD Teams:
- Assign responsibilities between onsite (field-based) and offsite (office-based) teams.
- Supervise stakeholder engagement at central and provincial levels.
- Ensure consistent progress tracking, reporting, and risk management.
6. Leadership, Compliance & External Relations:
- Represent the company in investor, government, and partner meetings.
- Align department activities with company ESG and legal compliance standards.
- Lead, coach and develop team members to build internal capability.1. Minimum Education:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Business, Engineering, Energy Economics, or related field
- Minimum 10 years of experience in energy sector, with 5+ years in project development or investment roles
2. Professional Experience:
- Proven success in handling renewable energy projects (solar, wind, hydro, LNG-to-power, etc.)
- Experience with M&A, joint development, or strategic partnerships in infrastructure or energy
3. Preferred Knowledge:
- Vietnam's energy regulations, PDP framework, PPA policies
- Financial modeling and investment analysis
- Project permitting, land, and grid connection process
