This role
As one of our Senior Software Engineers (PHP), you’ll play a key role in building and scaling our public- facing website – a critical part of Employment Hero’s product and brand experience.

This role is ideal for engineers who love solving real product challenges, enjoy full ownership over technical decisions, and are excited to shape the way our users experience Employment Hero on the web.
We’re not necessarily looking for WordPress experts. If you have a strong background in PHP, experience with modern frameworks (Laravel, Symfony, etc.), and a passion for clean architecture, performance, and scalability — we’ll support you to learn WordPress and Gutenberg the right way.
This isn’t your typical WordPress role. Instead of relying on pre- built themes or third- party plugins, you’ll be part of a small, high- performing team that is designing and developing a custom, high- performance WordPress platform from the ground up. We’re building bespoke solutions that leverage modern WordPress architecture, utilize the full potential of the Gutenberg editor, and integrate seamlessly with our internal systems and services.

You’ll need:

Strong PHP experience (Laravel/Symfony)
Solid grasp of OOP, design patterns, and SOLID principles
Comfortable with Git, CI/CD, Docker, and cloud deployment
Unit/E2E testing, agile workflows, and problem- solving mindset
SQL database experience (MySQL/MariaDB/Postgres)
Willingness to learn WordPress & Gutenberg

Bonus if you have:

Experience with cloud infra (CDN, WAF, reverse proxy)
Familiarity with frontend tools (React, Vue, Tailwind)
Experience with RESTful APIs
Background in SaaS or product- based companies
Custom WordPress plugin/theme experience
