Position Overview
The Industrial Designer will play a key role in transforming conceptual designs into manufacturable products. This position requires a detail-oriented designer with a strong technical background who focuses on translating design ideas into precise drawings and specifications for manufacturing. You will collaborate closely with the Product Development team and overseas manufacturers to ensure that each product is engineered for efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and mass production without compromising quality or aesthetics.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop detailed technical drawings, 2D and 3D CAD models, and manufacturing specifications for furniture products.
Work closely with the Product Development team in Canada to ensure designs are optimized for production, assembly, and logistics.
Collaborate with manufacturing partners in India, China, and Vietnam to ensure accurate design implementation and address any technical or production challenges that arise.
Refine designs based on manufacturer feedback, material limitations, and production techniques, ensuring all adjustments meet both design intent and cost objectives.
Ensure designs comply with industry standards, manufacturing tolerances, and quality control requirements.
Create BOMs (Bill of Materials) and detailed production drawings to support the manufacturing process.
Modify and update technical drawings to reflect changes in product design, materials, or manufacturing processes.
Collaborate with sourcing teams to select materials and finishes that are suitable for mass production while meeting aesthetic and cost targets.
Conduct factory visits (when needed) to oversee production, troubleshoot issues, and ensure the integrity of the final product.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Industrial Design, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
3-5 years of experience in industrial design with a focus on technical drawing and manufacturing, preferably in the furniture industry.
Proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Rhino, or similar) and other design tools like Adobe Creative Suite.
Strong understanding of furniture manufacturing processes, materials, and assembly techniques, including wood, metal, and upholstery.
Experience collaborating with overseas manufacturers, particularly in Asia, is highly desirable.
Excellent skills in creating detailed production drawings, prototypes, and technical documentation.
Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to work on design adjustments quickly and efficiently.
Knowledge of industry standards and compliance regulations related to furniture manufacturing.
Effective communication skills, especially when working with international teams and vendors.
Experience with mass production, cost analysis, and managing design changes through the production cycle.
Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and meet tight deadlines.
