A – Job summary
It is the mission of the Saigon South International School High School Music Program to develop the individual student through comprehensive musical experiences that promote the knowledge, skills, aesthetics, and dispositions necessary to become critical and free thinking individuals, independent musicians, life-long learners, informed consumers of music, participants of music-making, and supporters of music and music education. Participants in the program range from 9th - 12th grade and are able to select music course offerings including band, strings, and choral ensembles, as well as International Baccalaureate Music at both the SL and HL levels.

In the position, the assistant will provide additional support to the music teacher and the program to enhance efficiency of the band program as well as serve as the accompanist for the high school choir course. Prospective applicants must show professionalism and desire to improve the school music program by demonstrating qualities as prescribed in the Saigon South International School Mission Statement and Core Values. The assistant will work to assist the music teacher and students in on-to-one, small group, and small ensemble settings, as well as perform logistical and administrative duties such as maintaining and organizing documents and records, generating student music parts, and assist in the organizational operations within the music program. A component of the position includes providing piano accompaniment of the High School Choir, which meets 2-3 times per week for 80 minutes rehearsals.

B – Essential duties and responsibilities
1. Cooperatively with and independently of the band teacher, rehearse small group of
students and sectionals, as well as the whole ensemble.
2. General clerical duties related to the functioning of the music program.
3. Maintain records and assist with yearly inventory audit.
4. Assist with instrumental inventories records.
5. Accompaniment of the high school choir rehearsals on the piano.
6. Under the direction and supervision of the music teacher; assist with student remediation
7. Assist with the music arrangements for bands, including transcribing, arranging, or transposing music.
8. Assist with concert preparation and other music functions, including time outside of the school day.
9. In the event of illness, assist substitute teachers in classes taught by the music teacher.
10. Other duties as assigned by the music teacher.
11. Additional working hours will be necessary outside of the school day for music events such as but not limited to concerts, individual lesson instruction, and other school community events.
12. Communicates with and supports Middle school music program with initiatives and assistance as needed.
13. Perform other duties assigned by Music Teacher/ Associate Principal/ Principal

Yêu Cầu Công Việc

A. Knowledge, Education and Experience:
• Post-secondary degree or equivalent
• Proficiency in music notation software such as Finale or Sibelius (or willing to take training)
• Proficiency in Digital Audio Workstation (or willing to take training)
• Ability to read music and play one or more instruments, preferably piano, or winds and/or percussion

B. Skills:
• Proficiency in piano performance
• Great interpersonal, writing, and speaking skills
• English language proficiency

C. Abilities:
• Instrumental and/or vocal training and experience to be familiar with the routine of a music ensemble rehearsal and to be able to assist in the tutorial remediation with individual students under the supervision of the music teacher.
• Ability to read and perform standard Western music notation.
