Role Overview

As Game Engineering Lead, you’ll be the Technical Owner for the client-side development and lead a dedicated R&D group focused on solving complex challenges — especially around networking, scalability, and multiplayer infrastructure.

You will guide our Unity development efforts, explore innovative solutions to expand feature capabilities and ensure our architecture scales for a living, breathing world filled with thousands of concurrent Axie adventurers.

Responsibilities

• Own the technical direction and architecture of the Unity client, ensuring scalability, performance, and maintainability.
• Lead and mentor a specialized R&D group, with a deep focus on networking systems, real-time multiplayer, and netcode optimization.
• Partner closely with server engineers and backend teams to design robust networking layers and data flows.
• Evaluate and implement technologies to increase the capacity and flexibility for feature teams, enabling more complex and dynamic gameplay.
• Set and uphold best practices in Unity development, coding standards, and performance optimization.
• Collaborate with game designers, product owners, and artists to ensure a seamless and high-quality player experience.
• Drive proof-of-concept initiatives and prototype cutting-edge systems that push the limits of Unity and multiplayer game development.
• Support live operations and debug issues across networking and performance pipelines.
  
  

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in game development, with 3+ years in Unity and C# at a senior or lead level.
• Proven track record of technical leadership, including managing large engineering teams (20+ engineers) across disciplines.
• Deep experience with real-time multiplayer systems, networking (e.g. Unity Netcode, Photon, Mirror, or custom solutions), and optimization.
• Strong understanding of client-server architecture, sync models (authoritative vs non-authoritative), and latency management.
• Solid grasp of software design patterns, performance profiling, and memory management in Unity.
• Experience in cross-functional collaboration across engineering, design, and product teams.
• Passion for games — especially MMO, sandbox, or multiplayer experiences — and excitement to shape the next era of web3 gaming.

• Experience with ECS (Entity Component System), DOTS, or other performance-focused Unity paradigms.
• Background in low-level networking, load testing, or scalable backend systems.
• Shipped one or more live-service games with large player bases.
