I’m going to talk about one of my favorite overseas trips, and that is when I went to Singapore to celebrate my 20th birthday. It is one of the cleanest and safest countries I have ever visited.
Located in Southeast Asia, this little oasis is the most developed city in the region. Unlike other countries in the area, which are famous for their exotic charms and breath-taking scenery, Singapore is known for its top-notch facilities and modern infrastructure. Its cleanliness is also worth mentioning. The streets here are extremely different from what you will find in Vietnam, I mean, they are nearly spotless and you can be fined if you litter in public places, which prevents these places from being filled with trash. Even the tap water here is potable.
So I went there a few years ago. It was the second time that I traveled abroad so I had a little traveling experience. I planned my itinerary quite carefully so that I could explore every aspect of the country. We visited different places, from sidewalk cafes to first-rate shopping malls, hotels and restaurants. What I liked most was the nightlife there. There were several pubs selling local micro-brews, with very stylish and approachable waiters.
I would love to pay a visit to Singapore again. Of course, I have to wait until the pandemic is over to fulfill my dream.

Ý tưởng bài mẫu (tiếng Việt)
- Đề bài Describe a place you have visited yêu cầu thí sinh miêu tả một địa điểm có cảnh quan đẹp, trong đó cần đưa ra các thông tin:
- Địa điểm đó ở đâu
- Đi tới đó cùng ai và vào lúc nào
- Đã làm những gì ở đó
- Cảm nhận chung về nơi đó

- Trong câu hỏi thứ ba, đã làm những gì ở đó, hãy nghĩ tới những hoạt động phổ biến thường làm khi đi du lịch và tham khảo thêm những hoạt động mang tính điển hình và đặc biệt của địa điểm đang miêu tả.
- Câu hỏi cuối cùng, cảm nhận chung về nơi đó, thường được coi là phần quan trọng nhất của bài nói. Các bạn có thể dành một phần lớn bài nói để đưa ra cảm nhận của mình về địa điểm hoặc những trải nghiệm đã có ở đó. I want to call myself a hodophile, a travel lover because whenever I have a chance, I’ll hit the road. I have been to many places, in Vietnam and other countries, and now I’d like to talk about the most recent place I’ve set foot in. That is Hakone, a lovely scenic town in Japan.
I went there last spring on a one-week solo trip to Japan. I was recommended this place by a local friend when I was browsing a travelling guide site. She was also the one who accompanied me to Hakone. To get to the city, I had to take a train from Tokyo’s Shinjuku Station and Hakone’s Yumoto Station via Odakyu Railway. Another alternative is to take the train using Japan Railways, but the fare is slightly higher.
Although I already knew about Hakone’s charm, I was still stunned when I got there. From the windows of the train, I could already see the iconic Mount Fuji from afar, which was what I had longed to see. I then met my Japanese friend at Sounzan Station and took the first form of transport, the ropeway, to visit Hakone. Not only did I have a more close-up view of Mount Fuji from the cable car, I also caught a distinct view of the desolate mountainside covered by plumes of smoke in Owakudani. It was actually an active volcanic valley once called Hell Valley.
Then my friend insisted that I try the black eggs, another distinctive thing in Hakone. They are basically chicken eggs but boiled in Owakudani’s natural hot springs, whose water turns the eggshell as black as charcoal, and according to the local lore, eating one of these black eggs adds seven more years to our life. But to be very honest, it tasted like any regular hard-boiled egg to me.
Then, she introduced me to the onsen, which is basically bathing in hot springs but also what Hakone is most well-known for. I had to admit it was indeed a very heavenly experience.
In general, I was totally satisfied with the trip. The experience I had there still lingers until now even though it has already been a year.

What are some popular attractions that people like to visit in your country?
Vietnam is such a big country so there are many places that attract people. If you are an adventurous person, you could go on a trekking trip to various mountain ranges in the north. Or if you want to find a picturesque village to relax and enjoy yourself, there are some islands that offer you just that.
Do old people and young people choose different places to go on vacation? Why?
Well, yes. I guess young people are much more dynamic and outgoing so they prefer going to places that have lots of recreational activities to do. By contrast, I think old people are more into quiet and peaceful places, such as a secluded beach or a private resort. But of course, there are exceptions, like my grandfather always loves to visit crowded ancient temples.
What do young people and old people think about when making travel plans?
Old people do not want to think much about their trip. Usually, they would go on an all-inclusive package tour that has a fixed schedule and budget. Meanwhile, young people like choosing attractions that they will visit or the restaurant where they will have their meals. It’s exciting when making travel plans because you know that your vacation is coming.
How do people get to know a new place?
Various ways. Word of mouth is the most popular method. I mean, they could ask for information from people who have been to that place. Moreover, newspapers and travel magazines are useful as well. There are often travel columns in newspapers where there is lots of information about tourist destinations, from suggestions on where to eat, to offering sightseeing tours.
