Today, I’m gonna tell you about bargaining, an invaluable negotiation skill that I acquired from my mom. My dear mom is the one who gave birth to me and sacrificed so much to raise me up. With respect to her personality, three adjectives that could be used to best describe her are hard-working, intelligent and kind-hearted.
Additionally, she is really good at one particular communication skill called bargaining. To be more specific, after negotiating with sellers, she always gets prices she reckons reasonable. The fact that she has never failed to persuade people is really inspiring to me. Compared to my mom, I’m quite afraid to haggle over prices, so I sometimes accept even prohibitively expensive deals and later on, I’ll find out that I have been ripped off.
Well, lately, I’ve tried so hard to avoid being deceived like that by asking myself one single question: Were I my mom, what would I do now? It truly works for me. I can proudly say that I’m now confident to refuse costly original prices and propose more reasonable ones for both parties.
It is undisputed that such a skill is amazing given the accelerating inflation spreading worldwide. Thanks to it, I’ve been able to save up a huge amount of money which can be allocated to my future profitable projects. Many years later, when I have my own family, I’ll definitely show my children this practical skill.

The helpful skill I always feel grateful to be taught by a seasoned colleague of mine is time management, which indeed has become my life-saver.
Back in the day when I was on probation period at my former company, I was led by an extremely tidy leader. It is not a bit exaggerated to refer to him as a creature of habit. "Alignment is beauty" has been his motto since he tends to be well-organized consistently. There was this one time when I laid an iced cup of joe on my desk, he, without saying a word, used pieces of tissues to prevent water condensed on the cup’s surface causing the desk wet and he did it as natural as breathing.
During my first weeks at the company, missing deadlines after deadlines got me into tons of troubles. My problem caught my leader's attention and it led to 1-1 meeting session with him in no time. When the meeting was happening, he left no stone unturned in the “investigation” about my then work procedures and tried to kaizen it (by kaizen I mean “make gradual improvement). After a while, we discovered my poor performance stemmed from how awful I managed my time at work. I failed to prioritize tasks based on the tasks’ importance and urgency. I then was introduced how to sort out and allocate my time on the right priority level tasks and that brand new skill was an eye-opener to me. He also suggested me to make action plan for weeks, months, and quarters to come besides my daily to-do lists so I can have clear direction to stick to.
I have been applying that method since then and things got done much more smoothly and I eventually can be on top of my game at work. At the end of that year, I was as happy as Larry to have achieved the award "employee with greatest productivity" I have been deeply thankful that this skill serves as my life changer which colossally improved my work.

I’m convinced that the most significant practical skills are communication skills. Being able to understand people and situations as well as express their ideas and opinions clearly allows individuals to thrive in all aspects of life.
At work, those who are strong communicators are usually good team players as they can successfully collaborate with people from different backgrounds and together achieve the team’s collective goals. In one’s personal life, these interpersonal skills enable people to build trust and respect, developing deeper bonds with their families and friends.
I do believe that apart from pivotal skills that people have to acquire for their personal development, there are also some that are learnt as hobbies like playing musical instruments, gardening or sewing. They can serve as a wonderful entertainment tool for people who wish to find something different to immerse in after going through stressful working hours or doing tedious household chores.
For me, it’s quite hard to figure out which set of skills is more challenging to master. It seems to me that this has more to do with age groups. For numerous young people, traditional skills like cooking or gardening might require a considerable amount of effort and time, but modern ones such as IT skills or languages seem to be a lot easier for them to obtain.
It is the exact opposite for a number of elderly people. They usually find it demanding to learn how to use a computer or speak foreign languages but tend to be more comfortable with cooking tasty dishes or taking care of a wide variety of flowers.
