Describe your mother | Bài mẫu IELTS Speaking Part 1, 2, 3
I am currently living in an extended family including my parents, my brother and sister-in-law. And there are also my adorable niece and nephew. People often talk about the generation gap in large families, yet I haven’t seen any quarrels about distinct opinions or lifestyle. I suppose that I should feel blissful about that.
For normal days, I think we only go out on Sunday for coffee. If the budget allows, the whole family would go for a vacation at the beach. And then there is Tet holiday when we can wine and dine as a way to strengthen the family tie
You know, in the last day of the lunar calendar, there is a yearly comedy show called “Táo Quân” broadcasted on the central television. I love the atmosphere when we eat dinner while watching it. It feels like we are waving goodbye to the old year and all the unlucky events in the past.
Not all the time if I have to be candid. But I do feel at ease as most of the conflicts are too serious. To give as an illustration, we fight about trivial things like who would do the dishes, actually just my brother and I do that.
My mom is the one that I cherish the most in my life, so I usually go out with her the most out of all the family members. My mother is the homemaker in the family. Actually, she used to go to work, but she decided to step back and took care of the me when I was in grade 12 preparing for the university entrance exam. That’s why I think she is a devoted parent, sacrificing her career for her child. She’s also quite strict about my study, so inevitably, we had a few arguments, but we never reached a long-standing family feud.
So, to talk about what we often do together, there are two casual activities. The first one is going shopping. To be honest, my mom is my personal stylist. She is the one who advised me to wear more dresses like high-waist or A – line ones, which perfectly suit my body shape.
Furthermore, going to the cinema is what we also like to do in our spare time. We all have a compatible movie taste and our favourite genre is comedy. Honestly, I think we have watched “Bridesmaids” no less than three times. As I have started going to work in the recent two years, I have less time to hang out with my mom, but I try to clear my schedule at weekends or at least do lunch with her on Sunday.
Even though I am fairly busy with my job, I still want to talk to her about things like my co-workers or my tasks because I want her to know that I can handle my job well and I am safe in this environment. Also, since she is my nearest and dearest, I want to become a reliable child so that she can lean on when she gets old.

Her name is Huong, which can be understood as “a scent”. This name also truly reflects her, as she is always charismatic in every single outfit from daily clothing items to gorgeous dresses although she is already in her early fifties. Another thing about this is that my mother is working as an English teacher and also the breadwinner of my family, which means she is invariably in the hustle and bustle of her working schedule, but she always manages to take care of herself, with a shopping day every two weeks and yoga every early morning.
However, her ladylike appearance is not the greatest thing I love about my mom. Instead, the one that makes her the closest family member to me is her caring and affectionate characteristics. Mom is a good listener, who is always gentle and patient with me, despite many of my faults or misbehaviours. She keeps it slow and gives me advice on what I have done and how to improve it in the next times, instead of telling or ordering me to do this and that. Also, she has never told me off or physically punished me before, as mom has always taught me that violence is the fastest way to destroy a person. Gradually, she is not only my parent, but also a companion of mine that I could confide in whenever I want.
Mom has always been beside me in my ups and downs, and I am confident that she is the one in my family that knows me inside out. And this is another thing that drives me to admire her so much, as she could balance between making ends meet and spending time with her family. Therefore, I have always regarded my mom as my role model, as I know I could learn a lot from her.

Tuy nhiên, vẻ ngoài hấp dẫn của mẹ không phải là điều tôi yêu thích nhất ở mẹ tôi. Thay vào đó, điều khiến mẹ trở thành thành viên gần gũi nhất trong gia đình với tôi chính là tính cách chu đáo và tình cảm của mẹ. Mẹ là một người biết lắng nghe, luôn dịu dàng và kiên nhẫn với tôi, bất chấp nhiều lỗi lầm hay cư xử không đúng của tôi. Mẹ chậm rãi và cho tôi lời khuyên về những gì tôi đã làm và cách cải thiện nó trong những lần tiếp theo, thay vì chỉ yêu cầu hay ra lệnh cho tôi phải làm thế này, thế kia. Ngoài ra, mẹ chưa bao giờ mắng mỏ hay đánh tôi trước đây, vì mẹ luôn dạy tôi rằng bạo lực là cách nhanh nhất để hủy hoại một người. Dần dần, mẹ không chỉ là phụ huynh của tôi, mà còn là một người bạn đồng hành mà tôi có thể tâm sự bất cứ khi nào tôi muốn.
Mẹ đã luôn bên cạnh qua những thăng trầm của tôi, và tôi tin tưởng rằng mẹ là một thành viên gia đình rất rất hiểu tôi. Và đây là một điều nữa khiến tôi ngưỡng mộ mẹ rất nhiều, vì mẹ có thể cân bằng giữa việc kiếm sống và dành thời gian cho gia đình. Vì vậy, tôi luôn coi mẹ là hình mẫu của mình, vì tôi biết tôi có thể học hỏi được rất nhiều điều từ mẹ.
Well, I would love to share with you about my beloved mother, my safest haven on this whole planet. Her name is Van.
She’s in her fifties. Her appearance seems to blend in well with women her age. My mom doesn’t have an outstanding figure in comparison with some of her peers, as she has devoted her whole life to us, to her little family. To be honest, my family has always been on a tight budget, but my sister and I were provided with all the best things growing up. In addition, since my father is the breadwinner of the family, he has to be away for work most of the time. Therefore, my mom plays both roles of mother and father, or sometimes a trusting friend for me to confide in. Raising two daughters with the frequent absence of a father figure in a family must be really hard for her, but my mom handled it unbelievably well. As the eldest daughter, I often help her with the cooking. I cherish those little moments with her a lot. We would share with each other endless trivial things while preparing proper meals. What’s more, we love going out for coffee together. We could spend hours enjoying our company and the peace when I am with her.
Mom has always been right by my side through thick and thin. It is undeniable that she is the only person in the family who could know me inside out without having to say a word, and so do I. From the bottom of my heart, my mother is my all-time influencer, my sunshine during those darkest days, and my motivation to keep moving forward.

Ngoại hình của mẹ tôi có vẻ cũng giống như bao nhiêu người khác ở tuổi 50. Bà không có một ngoại hình quá xuất sắc hay nổi bật như một vài người bởi lẽ mẹ đã tận tụy cống hiến cả đời mình cho gia đình nhỏ của mẹ. Thành thật mà nói, gia đình tôi cũng không khá giả gì, nhưng chị em tôi không phải chịu cảnh thiếu thốn bất cứ thứ gì trong suốt tuổi thơ của chúng tôi, chúng tôi luôn nhận được những gì tốt nhất từ bố và mẹ. Nuôi nấng hai người con gái khôn lớn với sự vắng mặt thường xuyên của người bố trong gia đình hẳn là rất khó khăn nhưng mẹ tôi đã xoay xở tài tình. Tôi là chị cả trong nhà nên tôi thân thiết với mẹ hơn so với em gái của mình. Tôi thường giúp mẹ nấu ăn. Tôi rất trân trọng những giờ phút ít ỏi bên mẹ. Chúng tôi sẽ cùng nhau trò chuyện về những thứ vụn vặt trong cuộc sống của chúng tôi trong khi chuẩn bị những bữa ăn tươm tất. Chưa kể, mẹ và tôi rất thích đi uống cà phê với nhau. Chúng tôi có thể dành hàng giờ đắm chìm trong những câu chuyện của nhau, và tôi có thể đắm chìm trong sự bình yên khi được ở bên mẹ.
Mẹ luôn luôn ở đấy, luôn luôn bên cạnh tôi qua những thăng trầm cuộc sống. Không thể chối cãi rằng mẹ là người hiểu rõ tôi nhất trong gia đình, người duy nhất có thể hiểu tôi từ trong ra ngoài mà không cần tôi phải nói lời nào, và tôi cũng thế. Từ tận đáy lòng, mẹ là người có sức ảnh hưởng nhất cuộc đời của tôi, là ánh sáng soi rọi những ngày tăm tối, là động lực cho tôi luôn tiến về phía trước trong bất kỳ hoàn cảnh nào.
Most Vietnamese girls get married at the age of 24, which stays unchanged in the last decade, but the difference is that couples are now having children later compared to the previous generations. The major contributor to this trend is the worry about personal finance.
Young people now consider bringing up children doesn’t mean just feeding them enough food, it is about covering the best education and entertainment for them. Another point is that same-sex couples are now seen a norm in the country even though there isn’t any legal endorsement from the government, which is a good sign of a civilized society.
I don’t think there should be a definite answer to this question. I regard marriage as teamwork. Some couples prefer to focus on their prospects only and if that can help them to work efficiently when taking care of the children as well as the maternal and paternal sides, they should do that. We can see a lot of traditional models which contains a husband, the breadwinner, and a housewife.
On the other hand, some favour sharing chores together. Both the male and female go to work and look after the children. I mean the world is not chauvinist anymore, so people shouldn’t be restricted in obsolete gender roles.
It was hard for me to choose between them, but I still go for my family at the end. To explain my reason, although it sounds so cliché, my parents are the one who bring me to this world and nurture me till the day I’m mature, physically and mentally. Not to mention, they are my tower of strength. My parents usually back me up when I have a concern and also give me useful insights.
