Besides là gì?

1. Ý nghĩa

Besides là một phó từ tiếng Anh mang nghĩa “ngoài ra, vả lại”.

Ví dụ:

• What did you do on your holiday besides sunbathing? (Bạn đã làm gì vào kỳ nghỉ của bạn ngoài việc tắm nắng?)
• Besides Jenny, who else went to the exhibition? (Ngoài Jenny, ai khác đã đến triển lãm?)

Besides là một trạng từ tiếng Anh dùng để giới thiệu thêm thông tin. Khi đóng vai trò là một trạng từ Besides thường đứng đầu câu.

Ví dụ:

• My older brother is not ready to love one more person. Besides, he likes loneliness. (Anh trai tôi chưa sẵn sàng để yêu thêm một người. Ngoài ra, anh ấy thích sự cô đơn.)
• Thanh is really good. Besides, she is also a polite person. (Thanh giỏi thật. Bên cạnh đó, cô ấy cũng là một người lịch sự.)

Besides + Mệnh đề

Ví dụ:

• Besides all the fast food, the kids heartily drank the banana smoothie. (Bên cạnh tất cả đồ ăn nhanh, bọn trẻ say sưa uống sinh tố chuối.)
• What other interests do you like besides art? (Bạn thích sở thích nào khác ngoài nghệ thuật?)

3. Cách dùng

• Besides được sử dụng như một giới từ tiếng Anh và mang nghĩa tương tự như “in addition to” hay “as well as”.

Ví dụ: What languages do you know besides Arabic and English? (Bạn biết ngôn ngữ nào ngoài tiếng Ả Rập và tiếng Anh?)

• Sử dụng besides để giới thiệu một mệnh đề. Động từ sau besides sẽ ở dạng Ving.

Ví dụ: He writes novels and poems, besides working as a journalist. (Ông viết tiểu thuyết và thơ, bên cạnh công việc của một nhà báo.)

• Besides được sử dụng như một trạng từ để đưa ra một điểm/một lý do bổ sung mà bạn cho là quan trọng.

Ví dụ: I’ll only be gone for five days, and besides, you’ll have fun while I’m away. (Tôi sẽ chỉ đi có năm ngày, và bên cạnh đó, bạn sẽ vui vẻ khi tôi đi vắng.)
