Câu trả lời mẫu chủ đề Puzzles IELTS Speaking Part 1

1. Did you do puzzles when you were a kid?

Yes I did. If my memory serves me right, I would say I used to do daily crosswords when I was a little kid, if that counts. And I was also a huge jigsaw puzzle enthusiast as well. There is always something about doing puzzles that intrigues me so much.

--  crossword (noun): trò chơi ô chữ

--  enthusiast (noun): người say mê lĩnh vực gì đó

--  intrigue (verb): lôi cuốn/thu hút

2. When do you do puzzles, during a trip or when you feel bored?

My answer would sound weird, but I often did them in the morning before going to school. During breakfast, my father and I would sit together to do the crossword section in daily newspapers, and I always finished it in a minute. I also carry with me a rubik cube to goof around whenever I feel bored.

--  rubik cube (noun): khối rubic

--  goof around (verb): nghịch ngợm

3. What do you like doing, word puzzles or number puzzles? Which one is more difficult for you?

At this point I think I’m quite versed in word puzzles, thanks to years of solving them with my dad. I think number puzzles pose more problems for me, as they require me to think in a more logical fashion, contradictory to word puzzles which help me increase my vocabulary.

--  verse (verb): rành

--  logical fashion (noun): một cách logic

4. Do you think it is good for old people to do puzzles?

I would say that old people’s minds tend to wither away due to their seniority, so doing puzzles, in my opinion, is one of the best ways to keep their mind sharp. I am not a neuron scientist, but I read somewhere that solving puzzles prevents their mind from wandering around and strengthens the connections between the cells in their brains. I think it would be much healthier than taking medicine.

--  wither away (verb): mai một

--  seniority (noun): tuổi già

--  keep sb’s mind sharp (phrase): khiến cho đầu óc ai đó minh mẫn

--  wander around (verb): suy nghĩ lung tung/vẩn vơ
