As well as là “cũng như” hoặc “vừa… vừa…” hoặc “không những… mà còn”. Tùy thuộc vào ngữ cảnh mà As well as mang nghĩa khác nhau. Cấu trúc As well as phổ biến xuất hiện nhiều trong cả văn viết và văn nói.
Ví dụ:
Cụm từ As well as ở trong tiếng Anh có vai trò như từ “and”, được dùng để diễn tả hai đối tượng, hành động, sự việc có tính chất tương tự mà không cần lặp lại lời nói/cấu trúc đã được nhắc đến trước đó.
N/ Adj/ Phrase (cụm từ)/ Clause (mệnh đề) + as well as + N/ Adj/ Phrase/Clause
Ví dụ:
Nếu như động từ chính của câu là một động từ nguyên mẫu thì động từ theo sau “as well as” cũng sử dụng động từ nguyên mẫu không có “to”. Đây là một điểm lưu ý quan trọng và hay bị nhầm lẫn khi sử dụng cấu trúc As well as.
Ví dụ:
Nếu như trong câu có hai chủ ngữ thì động từ được chia theo chủ ngữ đầu của câu. Nếu chủ ngữ trong cấu trúc As well as ở dạng số ít thì động từ cũng sẽ được chia tương ứng.
