I don’t believe this is easy to answer, as I have been so used to my neighborhood that I could hardly tell one particularly negative feature about it. Hmmm, if I am forced to choose, I’d probably suggest the authorities to plant some more trees in our neighorhood. 

So, to start off, let’s talk briefly about my neighborhood. I live in Tay Ho district, which arguably is one of the most visually stunning places in Hanoi. It’s ideal for sight-seeing since West Lake, the lake of which this district is named after, provides scenic view of the skyline, especially when the sun sets.

Tay Ho is also famous for its thick layers of culture accumulated throughout the centuries, shown through different relics and craft villages. Moreover, almost any life necessities can be found in easy walking distances. This paints Tay Ho as such a Mecca for both tourists and Hanoians. 

So what is the trouble in paradise and why do I believe that more trees could be of help? To keep it short, there’s a noticeable shortage of trees in the local area surrounding our house. While this doesn’t cause any huge difficulties in winter, the long summer days in Hanoi definitely become much more unbearable due to lack of shades. I constantly feel like a burnt piece of meat on a BBQ grill when I travel around, and I really believe some trees could put an end to this misery of mine, or at least alleviate it.

The trees are far from just public air-conditioners though; they offer so many more environmental and health benefits. By absorbing carbon dioxide, the trees are helping to mitigate greenhouse effects, which slows down climate change. Besides being climate friendly, urban canopy produces oxygen and intercepts airborne particulates, enhancing our community’s respiratory health.

What’s more, living in a greener area is also linked to an increase the residents’ levels of happiness and cognitive development, due to more contact with nature and less exposure to pollution, noise and heat. 

Basically, trees are a real godsend and I’ve no idea why the government does not allocate more space for greenery in the neighbourhood. I believe that with the opening of more parks or just lines of trees along the street, people’s lives could be greatly improved and our district would become an even more attractive spot to settle down in the future.

The place where I live has been suffering from various environmental issues ranging from pollution to harmful effects of the weather. Therefore, in my opinion, one of the most feasible solutions to ease this pressing issue is to plant more trees. Truth be told, my hometown is located in the Southern part of Vietnam where the relentless heat of the sun never subsides. Plus, this area is heavily polluted by exhaust fumes from a large number of vehicles. However, the number of trees planted here is quite low, and the green space has not been focused on by the authorities. This has given rise to all sorts of health conditions and even deaths annually. If there is one thing that I wish could happen, adding more vegetation is the smartest move to fight against all current kinds of matters. There are numerous benefits of this act, two of which are to shelter citizens from the heat and to filter the filthy air. With regard to the former, trees play an integral part in fending off the sun beam, so they help keep the temperature of the lower space down. This allows people to go out more and enjoy outdoor activities or encourages them to walk more instead of using automobiles. The second merit of growing more green areas is that the air would be filtered thoroughly, so the dust and pollutants would be eliminated by the process of trees’ respiration. As a result, people could breathe better air and enhance their living conditions. Personally, I think that the more trees there are, the better our lives will be. The great thing about this is that we will get ourselves immersed in the true beauty of nature once again.

Có rất nhiều lợi ích của hành động này, hai trong số đó là để che chở cho người dân khỏi cái nóng và lọc không khí bẩn. Về phương diện trước đây, cây cối đóng một phần không thể thiếu trong việc chống đỡ tia nắng mặt trời, vì vậy chúng giúp giảm nhiệt độ của không gian bên dưới. Điều này cho phép mọi người ra ngoài nhiều hơn và tận hưởng các hoạt động ngoài trời hoặc khuyến khích họ đi bộ nhiều hơn thay vì sử dụng ô tô. Ưu điểm thứ hai của việc trồng thêm nhiều mảng xanh là không khí sẽ được lọc kỹ càng, do đó, bụi và chất ô nhiễm sẽ bị loại bỏ nhờ quá trình hô hấp của cây cối. Kết quả là, mọi người có thể hít thở không khí tốt hơn và nâng cao điều kiện sống của họ. Cá nhân tôi nghĩ rằng càng có nhiều cây xanh thì cuộc sống của chúng ta càng tốt. Điều tuyệt vời về điều này là chúng ta sẽ một lần nữa được đắm mình trong vẻ đẹp thực sự của thiên nhiên. One change that can improve my local area is to include lessons about road safety in the school curriculum.

First, let me explain the problem in my hometown. I’m currently living in Ho Chi Minh city, which is the biggest city of Vietnam, and there is heavy traffic in the city. The problem is that many people commuting around the city do not obey traffic laws. It isn’t uncommon to see people running the red light or driving when being under the influence. This recklessness leads to many traffic accidents in the city with a lot of people losing their lives.

Even worse, many parents instil in their children this carelessness. I once saw a Mom let her son climb over the barriers to cross the street or some parents just let their kids play and run along the sidewalk.

Therefore, I think it is necessary to include lessons about road safety as a compulsory part of school curriculums. To avoid putting too much pressure on students, we don't have to teach them the whole traffic law system, only some basic road rules and pedestrian safety like waiting for the red light to cross the streets.

This will not only reduce the risk of children being harmed by vehicles but also raise their awareness of road safety, making them realize that their parents’ behavior could put other people's lives in danger, and therefore when they grow up, they are more likely to follow traffic laws.

Most people do, I think. Living alone away from the community can make people feel isolated, which can negatively affect their mental health. Besides, living alone can be quite dangerous, as no one will be there for them in case of emergencies.

• Where do people in a community usually have social gatherings?

I rarely engage in those activities, so I don't really have any ideas about it. I guess they may just go to someone’s house or community centers. Occasionally, when there are some outdoor activities, people can gather at a park.
