Ý tưởng bài mẫu (tiếng Việt)

  • Đề bài “Describe an occasion you wore the best clothes” yêu cầu chúng ta miêu tả về một dịp mà bạn mặc một bộ quần áo đẹp, sang trọng.

Actually, I am definitely not a fashion enthusiast or someone who is on trend, since I wear casual clothes most of the time. However, whenever there is any special occasion in my family or I have been invited by my friends, wearing a beautiful piece of clothing is obviously necessary. And today, I’m going to tell you about one of those events.

It was actually my friend’s wedding last month. I still remember that day, I was flooded with compliments from everybody. I wore a sheath dress, colored in pastel blue and white, which is also my favorite color. Actually, that dress was partially chosen by my friend, since before the wedding, we went shopping to choose the best dress for the wedding. I asked her to pick the dress for me because she has a great sense of style and always keeps up with the latest fashion trend.

The dress, fortunately, suited me perfectly. I remembered bringing it immediately to the fitting room when I saw it at first glance. Although fashion is definitely not my thing, I am confident to say that I have a very good taste in fashion. The dress is definitely to my liking, since it is extremely versatile, as shown in a way how the dress is both suitable in the formal setting at work and my study at school.

When I attended the wedding, everyone told me I looked so different. The main reason is that I have always pursued a casual look, which basically includes a T-shirt and a pair of jeans, and sometimes, even a plain-coloured shift dress. Everyone seemed to be so surprised of what I looked like that day, because I have never worn such a feminine-looking dress. Overall, I was so happy and thankful to my friend for helping me choose such a nice dress.

I’m going to tell you about the time I was a bridesmaid in my cousin’s wedding last year. It was a spring wedding, so she wanted us to wear light shades of purple with the men in silky, grey suits that were just divine. The exact date was May 13, 2017, held in a town known for its beautiful horse farms and sprawling (open, never-ending) fields called Hunt Valley. My cousin is a devout Christian (serious Christian), so she decided to get married in a Catholic Church with a backdrop of the gorgeous fields behind us.

Although the wedding was held on this day, I ordered my dress three months in advance and had it altered two times before the big day. I had put on  weight during the months leading up, as I was going through a stressful break-up (end of a relationship). So I had to alter my dresses ordered for a size 10 to size 12. Moreover, at the last minute, I realized my heels weren’t tall enough, and the bottom of the dress was dragging along the floor, picking up dirt. So, I had it altered again by about 6cm. When all was said and done, the dress fit me like a glove (fit perfectly). The day before, I went to get a French manicure and had my hair and make-up done the morning. My cousin provided us with bouquets, a flower bracelet, and a set of gold earrings to thank us for being a part of her special day.

Although the dress wouldn’t be my personal taste, I felt that I had to put on a face (smile even when you don’t like something) for my cousin’s sake. I know that a wedding day is one that a person cherishes, for their entire life, so I certainly didn’t want to fuss (complain). Furthermore, a wedding, especially in a church is a formal event, so I wanted to dress accordingly. All in all, I did it for her!

I love dressing up. In fact, I keep an eye on almost every sale organised by online platforms. One of the reasons why I prefer online shopping for clothes is because I get to grab latest deals and discounts that further decrease the price to a great extent. So, on the occasion of Diwali, when I had to wear something traditional, I scrounged through plenty of eCommerce sites to find a dress.

It was back in 2019 and I simply wanted to doll-up on this festival. So, one day, I took out some time from my schedule and navigated through options available on varying sites. Fortunately, I came across a shimmery Lehenga Choli on Myntra.

At a glance, I found it attractive because of its peachy colour. Moreover, the model in those pictures had draped the Duppatta in an elegant manner. I dived more into the specifications and found out that the Lehenga Choli had cotton lining inside with artwork done on georgette cloth. All in all, I found it gorgeous and affordable; thus, I placed the order.

It arrived just a day before Diwali. Fortunately, the dress didn’t need any alterations. So, on the D-day, I dressed myself in the traditional possible way and had subtle makeup. Everybody appreciated my look and I felt gorgeous.

Well, this is such a tough topic for me to talk about, perhaps because I am more of a casual person when it comes to wearing dresses. In other words, I don’t necessarily wear clothes, thinking that they are the best clothes, whether I am going to a party or just going to a grocery shop nearby. But, still, today here, I am going to try real hard and remember an occasion when I actually thought that I wore my best clothes.

Anyway, the occasion, that best comes to my mind, on which I wore some of my best clothes was when I attended the marriage ceremony of my eldest cousin about 4 years ago from now. Back then, I was a young university student with courage and heart to try all kinds of dresses, whether they were made in a local clothing store of my town or by a world-famous clothing brand. I used to wear them as long as they made me feel comfortable in them. One such attire, which I really liked, included a dark navy blue jeans, a V-neck sweater (to use only during mild winter), and a light cream colour blazer.  Now, I didn’t really consider them as some of my best clothes until after one of my dear aunts (from my father’s side) had informed me about them, telling me that I looked really handsome in them.

By the way, there were many other guests at that wedding, including the other cousins of mine, my uncles and aunts, my parents, friends and colleagues of the groom, and a number of other people from my community. Needless to say, if I remember correctly, none of them was really wearing anything like my clothes. They were mostly wearing very formal suites and traditional dresses for wedding ceremonies.

So, I did wear the best clothes for that occasion, mainly because I wanted to make my cousin (the groom) happy on one of the most important days of his life. I wore these clothes also because they were very easy and comfortable to wear.

The time that I put on my best clothes was on my brother’s wedding 2 years ago, if I’m not mistaken. I am not a fashion icon or someone who is on trend (1) and I wear casual clothes(2) most of the time. On that special day, I wore a long red formfitting (3) dress, which was chosen by my best friend. I had her pick the dress for me because she has a sense of style (4) and always keeps up with the latest fashion trend(6) . The dress suited me perfectly. It helped me show my hourglass body. The dress looked simple with only one color and there was a flower on the chest for additional decoration. It helped me look formal enough for an important event but still elegant. I also wore red heels which matched the dress’s color perfectly.

When I attended the wedding, everyone told me that I looked so different and beautiful at the same time. I was so happy and felt thankful to my friend for choosing for me such a nice dress. Without her, I might wear something old fashioned (6) or too casual.

Recently, I wore the dress again on my 27th birthday and it still looked fashionable although three years has passed. I believe this is one of the timeless items (7) that every woman needs in her closet.

Câu trả lời mẫu IELTS Speaking Part 3: Clothes and fashion

1. Can we learn about someone’s personality based on the clothes they wear?

In my opinion, I strongly believe that people’s dressing style speaks volume about who they are. For example, you can tell if someone is careful and decent by how much attention they take to the little things in their clothing, such as wrinkles in the collar or little stains at the edge of the shirt. When it comes to individuals who are careless, on the other hand, their dressing style may not be particularly appropriate and they may not always be well-groomed.

2. What is the difference between clothes that young people and old people like to wear?

Without a doubt, there is a stark difference in the dressing style between young and old people. Regarding the older generation, they generally lean towards simple, plain and not too pricey pieces of clothing. Having said that, the younger counterparts take great care of their appearance, therefore making it much more necessary for them to wear fashionable clothes.

      • Stark (adj): hiển nhiên, rõ rệt
      • Lean towards (phrasal verb): nghiêng về điều gì hơn
      • Pricey (adj): đắt đỏ

3. Do you agree that expensive clothes are always better quality than cheap clothes?

From my perspective, I believe that expensive clothing is not always of higher quality than less expensive clothing. There are still some cases where many large firms spend a sizable portion of their money on advertising and celebrity endorsements to promote their goods. However, paying excessive attention to such strategies might result in firms taking less care of enhancing products’ quality. Therefore, I don’t think expensive clothes are not always better than cheap ones.

  • Sizable (adj): khá lớn
  • Celebrity endorsement (phrase): cách quảng bá thương hiệu bằng người nổi tiếng
  • Excessive (adj): quá đà, thừa thãi
