I’m going to talk about the first time I organized a volunteer event at my high school. Eight years ago, when I was 16, I came across an article writing about a girl who ran a lot of campaigns to protect the environment and called for donations from people to help clean the roads in her hometown. At that time, I thought that it would be amazing to do something helpful for other people around me like that girl.

Honestly, there were some projects like that which had been in progress in my town, but the involvement of kids and young people like me was too little to be counted. Even though I thought that my parents would not be interested, I gathered all my confidence and talked to them about me doing the same project as hers. Much to my surprise, my parents agreed to help me and even gave some great ideas on how to run the project.

Once I had got the support from my family, I started reaching out for my friends’ help. We created a group on Facebook, and consulted ideas from our teachers as well. After two weeks of hard work, we decided to take our first step – holding an event and giving gifts for children in SOS Children’s Village in our town.

The major problem that we encountered at that time was financial issues as we were only 16 and had nothing at all, we needed to raise funds. It was also the first time ever in my life that I stood in front of the whole class not presenting our homework but asking for money. Everyone got shocked a little bit but after a while, all of my classmates lined up to donate money. Luckily, the event was so successful that even friends from other classes contacted me and asked to help.

Until now, I am so grateful to have my family and friends. Without them, I would never have enough bravery and confidence to do such a meaningful thing like that.

There are so many events in my life which shaped me as I am today but If I have to choose, I’d like to describe my bachelor graduation ceremony. It was a very monumental achievement of my life. I got admitted to this university in 2013 after a long and complicated procedure and after 4 years studying there, it is all worth it. I studied Tourism Management in Stenden which is one of the most famous universities in the Netherlands. I was one of only 30 students who managed to graduate with honor. I still remember the atmosphere and the joy me and my friends have during the ceremony. Not only the Dean but also the Dutch education minister were there to give us the degree and to congratulate us for our hard work. Each student invited their loved ones to the ceremony. I brought my parents to join me and they all looked happy and was very proud of me. During this occasion, I was very happy but my head also filled with lots of uncertainties. My future career, what I will do, where I will be and what I will become are questions dancing around in my head.

1. How do people celebrate public events?

There are all sorts of public events that people can celebrate together. Here are just a few examples: 1. Community festivals 2. Local fairs and carnivals 3. Concerts in the park 4. Art gallery openings 5. Grand openings of new businesses 6. Street parties 7. Picnics in the park 8. Fundraising events for local charities 9. Movie screenings in the park.

2. Do you think it is important to celebrate events?

Yes, in a sense because they bring people together and honor our heritage. Festivals also provide an opportunity to learn about other cultures and their customs, which can be a time of great fun and excitement.

3. Should the event be prepared in advance?

Certainly. Events can be stressful, but being prepared in advance can help alleviate some of that stress. People should make a list of everything that needs to be done or brought ahead of time, and try to take care of as much as possible beforehand. On the day of the event, it’s a good idea to review your list and make sure you have everything you need. And don’t forget to account for any potential problems that could arise, and have a contingency plan ready.
