Bài mẫu:

Certainly, we are easily influenced by others’ good habits and want to develop the same one, but this is not always simple. Today, I’m going to describe a good habit of my best friend who works out on a daily basis. She is one of my childhood friends, whom I want to take up such a habit from. I have known her ever since we were in kindergartens and we kept being good friends since then.

As you know, Vietnamese people have undergone a long period of time staying at home due to the COVID 19 pandemic, and this somehow has led me to a sedentary lifestyle. Specifically, I am lazier than ever to do physical exercises, even when it comes to super short workouts, like 5 to 10-minute ones. Although I am well aware that I am gaining weight, it was not until a few months when I met my friend, did I realize the extreme significance of setting a target on a daily basis.

I noticed this habit of hers when she basically told me she could spend around 2 hours or more getting involved in intensive workouts, which was incredible to me at the time. I asked her how she did it and she explained that by setting a specific target of doing either a short or long workout a day before having dinner, I can reap some fruitful results in the end.

To be honest, she has completely changed my mind regarding the importance of working out everyday. I once thought that I would cut corners, as shown in a way how I forced myself to work out for more than 2 hours each day and even skip meals afterwards. However, my friend said that I was not doing it the right way and if I had kept doing this, my health would have been detrimentally affected.

Therefore, she was the one who taught me how to do exercises properly as well as how to tailor a diet to my liking. She was a source of inspiration for me, and until now, I keep doing what she told me and I have seen great improvements in my health and also my body shape.

So that’s all I would like to say about the habit that I want to take up from a friend of mine. I am so grateful to her for her inspiration and I would recommend such a habit to everyone, as taking care of our health is of great importance.

Từ vựng:

  • Childhood friend (phrase): bạn từ thuở nhỏ
  • Take up (phrasal verb): bắt đầu thực hiện điều gì (một thói quen, sở thích,..)
  • Sedentary lifestyle (phrase): lối sống ì ạch, lười vận động
  • Gaining weight (phrase): tăng cân
  • Get involved in (phrase): trực tiếp tham gia, thực hiện hành động gì
  • To my liking (phrase): dựa theo sở thích

Well, I’m not perfect so there are a lot of habits that I want to have. One of which is to strictly follow a workout regimen, just like some of my friends are doing.

Every afternoon, my friends meet up at the park to play badminton together. They have been doing that since high school because it gives them a chance to catch up with each other as well as improve their health. I used to be a part of that and we’ve had a lot of fun in the past, but you know, at the moment, my work requires me to work in shifts so I’m unable to attend these sessions anymore.

My body is getting out of shape because I don’t do anything to keep fit. I hit the gym a few weeks ago but I couldn’t stand working out alone, having no one to talk to, so I decided to give up. I’ve been trying to figure out what I could do in order to get into shape but my mind goes blank whenever I think about it. I think the only place that could help me to stay the course is the park, where I get the chance to meet my friends.

I’m always jealous of my friends because they are able to regularly work out together. I’m thinking about changing my job so that I could lead a healthier lifestyle.

Từ vựng:

  • workout regimen: chế độ tập thể dục
  • workout /ˈwɜːkaʊt/ tập thể dục
  • regimen /ˈredʒɪmən/: chế độ

Ví dụ: If you want to fit into those new clothes, you’ll need to start a workout regimen.

  • work in shifts (idiom): làm việc theo ca

Ví dụ: I hate jobs that require people to work in shifts

  • out of shape (idiom): không khỏe mạnh

Ví dụ: I'm so out of shape that I get out of breath climbing the stairs.

  • my mind goes blank (idiom): không nghĩ ra được gì

Ví dụ: I tried to remember her name, but my mind went completely blank.

  • stay the course (idiom): tiếp tục làm gì đó

Ví dụ: Very few of the trainees have stayed the course.

I’d like to talk about my roommate who has a good habit of working out on a daily basis. He especially likes recreational cycling.

Actually, lie developed this habit about two years ago when he planned to lose some weight and keep in shape. He set a goal to lose five kilos in two months. And biking worked like a charm for him, so he decided to make it a regular fitness activity for himself.

The place where he goes biking the most is a park that was recently built near our apartment. It has a really good location because it’s next to a beautiful lake in our city. And there’s a long bike path that has been built alongside the lake. My roommate usually goes biking there about two or three times a week. Each time he spends at least an hour there.

Since we live together, I know his habit very well. Sometimes I go biking with him. But it’s a pity that I haven’t been able to go cycling very often because I’ve been swamped with school assignments. I do hope that I can start riding daily and stick to it. For one, it would be a great way for me to relieve my back pain. Besides, cycling at a beautiful place helps me blow off some steam. It’s definitely an excellent way to stay mentally fit as well.

A few months ago, my best friend decided to try to drink 1,5 litres of water daily. First, she told me about her intention. She said publicly announcing her goals makes her feel the pressure of having to follow through on her goal, or otherwise let everyone down. This strategy works with me too.

A few days later she started carrying around a bottle of water at all times. It was hard not to notice. The bottle didn’t fit in her crossbody bag. So she had to carry it in hands. A little later, we went on holiday together. So I got a chance to watch her develop the habit.

Well, what she didn’t seem arduous. She drank a glass of water immediately after getting up. Also, she drank a glass of water with each meal. She carried around a bottle of water in order to consume some additional water while we were walking or exercising. Actually, this is what she’s still doing.

Câu trả lời mẫu IELTS Speaking Part 3: Habits

What habits should children have?

Children should be taught to pick up good habits as soon as possible. We don’t need to teach them very big things like money management or anything like that. I think that if they can develop and maintain small actions like having breakfast on time or brushing their teeth before bedtime, it would do wonders for them later on.

  • money management /ˈmʌni ˈmænɪʤmənt/: quản lý tiền bạc

Ví dụ: In seven out of 10 households it's a woman who's now responsible for money management.

  • Do wonders for : mang đến điều kì diệu cho

Ví dụ: Going to sleep early can do wonders for your health.

What should parents do to teach their children good habits?

Making them familiar with them. For example, if parents can install a routine of regular mealtimes, it is likely that children will continue this good habit in the future. Besides that, they could use their power to force their kids into forming good habits, like getting them off the sofa and television, preventing them from becoming couch potatoes.

  • routine /ruːˈtiːn/: công việc hàng ngày

Ví dụ: Exercise has become part of my daily routine.

  •  couch potato /ˈkaʊtʃ pəteɪtəʊ/: người nghiện xem TV

Ví dụ: He's turned into a real couch potato since he subscribed to the sports channel

How do people develop bad habits?

I guess that everyone has at least one bad habit. Although most of us know that it’s not good for us,  we still keep doing it because it has become an inner part of us. Take smoking, for example, lots of people cannot live without it even though they are well aware that cigarettes will destroy their lungs.

  • inner  /ˈɪnə(r)/: bên trong

Ví dụ: She doesn't reveal much of her inner self.

  • Well-aware /wɛl əˈweə/: nhận thức rõ

Ví dụ: They are well aware of the problems

What habits do people have when they get older?

Things that they have been doing since they were a kid. It seems to me that we are going to keep doing what we are familiar with. For example, a lot of old people still prefer buying a traditional newspaper to reading news online because they feel more comfortable holding a newspaper in their hands. This can also be said for the case of letters or cameras.

  • Familiar /fəˈmɪliər/: quen thuộc

Ví dụ: Then she heard a familiar voice.
