About Us

Damen Song Cam Shipyard Co., Ltd is a joint venture between Damen Shipyards Group in the Netherlands (70%) and Song Cam Shipyard (30%), member of SBIC and based in Haiphong, Vietnam. At a 42 hectare site just outside Haiphong, Damen Song Cam is a strategic and preferred production location within the Damen Shipyards Group to produce tugboats and workboats. At the moment, the shipyard is a dedicated outfitting shipyard, outfitting, commissioning and delivering approx. 40 vessels per year to clients worldwide. At a later stage Damen Song Cam will further increase its production facilities to deliver approx. 80 vessels a year and will start to produce some of the hulls which are currently sub-contracted to other yards.

The role

The foreman manages the assigned team of workers within the Workshop. The foreman's primary responsibility is to ensure that the work is completed safely, on schedule and to the required quality standards. oversees the day-to-day operations of team to ensure that the necessary skills, documents, tools, equipment and materials to complete the tasks are available.

Key Accountabilities

Safety: Making sure that all works are executed according to Company policies, rules and regulations.

• Complying with all Safety directives and work instructions
• Immediately reporting any incident or potential hazard to their Manager or Safety Officer
• Submitting work permit when required
• Initiating and contributing to job risk assessment
• Addressing unsafe behavior
• Teaching safe behavior
  
  

Team coordination: Coordinating and managing appointed employees.

And more in detail (but not limited to):

• Maintaining, supervising, and training personnel required to accomplish all assigned and upcoming tasks
• Daily assign tasks to construction workers
• Be the liaison between workers and managers
• Assessing team skills and performances together with the department manager
• Train, motivate, appraise and provide feedback on training requirement to uplift the skill of subordinates
• Taking care of the daily attendance, time management and hours-booking for the assigned team
• taking measures to avoid interruptions of the works and the reduction of the unproductive time
• Taking initiative for communication with the other foremen, who perform an activity adjacent to the one of his own team so that to ensure the continuity of the works
• Promoting teamwork and a pleasant working atmosphere
  
  

Quality and inspections: Looking after quality of tasks execution and completion for the assigned team.

• Developing workers knowledge of shipbuilding and Damen quality standard
• Proactive participation in identifying errors onboard
• Promoting “first time right” mentality
• Regularly inspect works execution
• Performing internal inspections to ensure that the tasks execution is of set standards prior to offering for QC / Client inspections
• Timely follow up on reported quality issues
• Avoiding damage of equipment, materials and tools
• Checking employees work activities based on drawings and materials. Reporting deviations and giving instructions
• Reporting of all the non-conformities and anomalies he finds with the documentation, parts, materials, TDC (tools, devices and checkers), assigned machines
  
  

Efficiency and supervision: Ensuring that the assigned tasks are staying within budget and time constraints and regularly report the progress of the tasks to superiors.

• Monitoring and reporting progress of assigned tasks
• keeping and reporting deviation from detailed planning (Production Orders)
• Assessing right amount of people assigned to each task
• Monitoring hours consumption on assigned tasks and timely raising deviation from budget
• Discussing the required capacity with the department leader
• Syncing the work activities between leads of other disciplines under the guidance of Ship Coordinators
• Inform the Ship Coordinator of any deviation from the schedule or risks observed in relation to progress, hours consumed and/or quality as soon as it arises
• Making sure the workspace is kept clean and tidy
• Suggesting new way of working to improve efficiency
  
  

Work scheduling and preparation: Collecting all ship coordinator schedule and define priorities for the assigned team. Making sure all information and conditions for job execution are available.

• Ensuring that (skilled) manpower, drawings, materials and tools required are requisitioned in a timely manner and made available in accordance with schedule requirements so that jobs are started and finished in a timely and efficient manner
• He provides document control (ensures, records and distributes the relevant documents)
• Timely reporting any expected deviation from scheudle to ship coordinator
• Discussing irregularities and deficits with the supporting departments (Ship coordinator, Material Coordination, Work Preparation, Production Support, Engineering, ..)
• Reviewing in advance technical content of the job and address criticalities to the team
  
  

Tools management: Ensuring effective and productive use of tools and consumables

And more in detail (but not limited to):

• Instructing subordinates regarding the maintenance of the working technological order and discipline, of the utilization instructions, maintenance of the installations, machines and equipment as well as of the handling, transport and storing rules
• Looking after a correct and efficient usage of materials and tools
• Verifying daily the technical condition of the assigned equipment and tools
• Keeping contact with maintenance for proper tools maintenance, replacement and/or repair
• Suggesting new tools needs and usage
  
  

Other contributions: Carrying out additional tasks as per Manager requirements.

• Assist in estimating both extra works and new works when required
• Advising the Workshop manager about necessary investments and purchasing of new equipment and tools
• Takes timely actions to allow Production Orders closure
• Provides feedback both on Product, process and Production Order content
• Adhering to company policies
  
  

Skills & Experience

• Education & skill:
• University graduation of related major
• Good Written and Verbal English
• Technical insight
• Computer literate
• Management and leadership skill
• Experience: 2 to 5 year experience in related positions
