Help | Định nghĩa, cấu trúc, giới từ đi kèm và bài tập vận dụng
Help có nghĩa là giúp đỡ, khi cần sự trợ giúp, giúp đỡ nào đó trong tiếng Anh thì ta thường sử dụng Help, ngoài ra cấu trúc Help cũng có một số ngữ nghĩa khác. Help thường có vị trí đứng sau chủ ngữ hoặc đứng sau trạng từ để bổ nghĩa cho câu.
S + help + oneself somebody + to + something
Ở cấu trúc Help này, chủ ngữ sẽ tự giúp mình thực hiện hành động được nhắc tới trong câu. Ví dụ:
Jenny helps herself to her homework. (Jenny tự mình làm bài tập về nhà của cô ấy.)
John helped himself to go to the market to buy food. (John tự đi chợ để mua đồ ăn.)
S + help + sb + V/ to V/ V-ing
Cấu trúc Help + to V = giúp ai đó làm gì: Cả người giúp và người được giúp cùng nhau thực hiện hành động. Ví dụ: Anna helped me to study Match. (Anna giúp tôi học Toán.)
Cấu trúc Help + V = giúp ai đó làm gì: Người giúp sẽ một mình làm hết mọi công việc cho người được giúp. Ví dụ: Jenny helped me clean the house. (Jenny giúp tôi làm sạch căn nhà)
Cấu trúc Help + V-ing = không thể tránh/không thể nhịn làm gì đó: Cấu trúc Help này không được đi với tân ngữ, thường sử dụng để biểu lộ cảm xúc. Ví dụ:
Anna can’t help laughing at the joke. (Anna không thể nhịn cười với câu nói đùa.)
Jenny couldn’t help crying when the film ended. (Jenny đã không thể nhịn khóc khi phim kết thúc.)
S + help + O + V-inf…
➔ S + to be + helped + to Vinf + … + (by O).
Ví dụ:
➔ Anna was helped to clean this desk by Harry. (Anna đã được giúp lau bàn học bởi Jenny.)
➔ Linda usually helped to solve the difficult problem by John. (Linda thường được giúp giải quyết các vấn đề khó bởi John.)
S + can’t/couldn’t help + doing something
Cấu trúc Help này không được đi với tân ngữ, thường sử dụng để biểu lộ cảm xúc, mang nghĩa là “không thể ngừng làm gì”. Ví dụ:
Sara can’t help being nervous whenever she has test. (Sara không ngừng lo lắng mỗi khi cô ấy có bài kiểm tra)
Jenny can’t help falling in love with John. (Jenny không thể ngừng yêu John.)
S + Help + somebody + off (on) with something…
Cấu trúc của Help đi kèm với giới từ Off hoặc On mang nghĩa giúp đỡ người nào đó mặc thứ gì đó. Ví dụ:
John helped Anna off with her shoes. (John đã giúp Anna cởi chiếc giày của anh ấy.)
Jenny helped Sara on with the T–shirt. (Jenny đã giúp Sara mặc chiếc áo phông.)
S + Help + somebody + Out…
Cấu trúc Help đi kèm với giới từ Out mang nghĩa giúp người nào đó thoát cảnh khó khăn, hoạn nạn trong cuộc sống. Ví dụ:
John is willing to help the company out when they are lack of staffs. (John sẵn sàng giúp đỡ công ty khi họ thiếu thốn nhân viên.)
Help (n): sự giúp đỡ, sự trợ giúp
Ví dụ:
Thank you for your kind help. (Cảm ơn vì sự giúp đỡ tốt bụng của bạn.)
There is no help for it. (Không có cách cứu chữa nào cho trường hợp này.)
Trường hợp tân ngữ của cấu trúc Help giống với tân ngữ của động từ đi kèm sau. Chúng ta bỏ tân ngữ sau Help và To của động từ đi sau nó. Ví dụ:
The body fat of the bears will help (them to) keep them alive in hibernation. (Cơ thể mập của bọn gấu sẽ giúp (chúng) sống sót trong kỳ ngủ đông)
Ngoài ra, “people to” có thể được lược bỏ bởi nó là một đại từ vô xưng với ý nghĩa chung chung là “người ta”. Ví dụ:
This vaccine helps (people to) recover more quickly. (Loại vắc-xin này giúp (người ta) hồi phục nhanh hơn.)

| God help someone | Dịch nôm na là “Chúa giúp ai đó”, được dùng để nhấn mạnh về mức nghiêm trọng của một tình huống hoặc hành động nào đó. | God help John if the teacher checks homework while he is still unprepared. (Chúa giúp John nếu giáo viên kiểm tra bài về nhà trong khi anh ấy vẫn chưa chuẩn bị gì.) |
| it can’t be helped | Được sử dụng để nói về một tình huống khó khăn hoặc một việc không mong muốn xảy ra nhưng không thể tránh khỏi và phải chấp nhận. | Jenny didn’t want to go away on Sunday, but it can’t be helped. (Jenny không muốn ra ngoài vào Chủ nhật, nhưng không còn cách nào khác đành phải chấp nhận.) |
| so help me (God) | Được sử dụng để thực hiện lời hứa một cách nghiêm túc. | Everything Jenny has said is true, so help her God. (Những gì Jenny vừa nói là sự thật, vì vậy hãy thực hiện lời hứa với cô ấy.) |
| there’s no help for it | Nghĩa là “không có sự lựa chọn nào khác trong tình huống này”. | If I catch them stealing again, there’ll be no help for it except to call the police. (Nếu tôi bắt được chúng ăn trộm lần nữa, sẽ không có cách nào khác ngoài việc gọi cảnh sát.) |
| help (someone) out | Giúp đỡ một phần nào đó trong công việc hoặc đầu tư tiền cho người cần giúp. | John’s parents helped (him) out with a 5.000.000 VND. (Bố mẹ của John giúp anh ấy với 5 triệu đồng.) |
