Would you mind | Định nghĩa, cấu trúc, cách dùng và bài tập vận dụng
Cấu trúc Would you mind trong tiếng Anh là một cách hỏi, cách đề nghị sự giúp đỡ. Nó mang sắc thái lịch sự và trang trọng.
Would you mind nghĩa là bạn có cảm thấy phiền nếu…hoặc nghĩa là Bạn có thể vui lòng….
Đây là cấu trúc khá phổ biến được dùng trong tiếng Anh. Trong cả văn nói và khi giao tiếp, cấu trúc này vẫn được sử dụng và phát huy hiệu quả rất tốt.
Ví dụ:
Would you mind if I sat here? (Bạn có phiền không nếu tôi ngồi đây?).
Would you mind my girlfriend coming with us on the trekking? (Cậu có đồng ý để bạn gái tớ đi leo núi cùng chúng ta không?)
Trong trường hợp bạn muốn đưa ra một yêu cầu, hoặc hỏi một ý kiến của người nghe một cách lịch sự, thì có thể sử dụng cấu trúc would you mind if. Công thức cụ thể:
Do you mind + if + S + V(s,es)
Would you mind + if + S + V(ed)
Ví dụ:
Do you mind if I tell your doctor? (Cậu có phiền không nếu tớ nói với bác sĩ của cậu?).
Would you mind if I closed the window in the bedroom? (Cậu có phiền nếu tớ đóng cửa sổ ở trong phòng ngủ không?)
Ngoài ra, nếu muốn yêu cầu hoặc hỏi ý kiến của một người nào đó bạn có thể sử dụng cấu trúc Woul you mind dưới đây. Công thức cụ thể:
Would/Do you mind + (S) + V-ing
Ví dụ:
- Hai cấu trúc Would you mind và cấu trúc Do you mind mang nghĩa tương tự nhau, tuy nhiên cụm từ Would you mind mang sắc thái lịch sự, trang trọng hơn so với Do you mind.
- Would you mind – cụm từ này được sử dụng với động từ chia ở thì quá khứ trong tiếng Anh. Còn cụm từ Do you mind đi cùng động từ ở thì hiện tại.

Ví dụ:
- Would you mind if I smoke in your bedroom? (Bạn có phiền không nếu tôi hút thuốc lá trong phòng ngủ của bạn?) – I’d rather you didn’t (Tốt hơn hết là đừng).
- Do you mind if I use your mobile phone? (Bạn có phiền không nếu tôi dùng điện thoại của bạn?).
