As if As though là gì?

Cấu trúc As if As though có nghĩa là: Cứ như là…/ Như thể là… Cấu trúc này được dùng để diễn tả tình trạng một sự vật, sự việc như thế nào, hoặc mang nghĩa mỉa mai một sự việc, hành động, sự vật nào đó.

Cấu trúc này vừa diễn tả tình huống có thật và cũng vừa có thể diễn tả tình huống không có thật.

Ví dụ:

• Jenny sounds as if she is sad. (Jenny nghe như thể là cô ấy đang buồn.)

→  Mang nghĩa mô tả một sự vật, sự việc.

• Anna acts as though she is the best in the class. (Anna cư xử như thể cô ấy là giỏi nhất trong lớp.)

→ Mang nghĩa mỉa mai 1 sự vật, sự việc.

Cấu trúc và cách dùng As if As though

1. Cấu trúc As if As though đi cùng động từ chỉ giác quan

Cấu trúc As if As though thường thấy đi với động từ chỉ giác quan như: sound, look, taste, smell, feel.

Cấu trúc:

S + V + as if / as though + S + V

Chú ý: Động từ trong mệnh đề AS if As though được chia theo thì của động từ trong mệnh đề chính.

Ví dụ:

• • The pineapple tastes bad as if it is going to be rotten. (Quả dứa có vị rất tệ như thể là nó sắp bị thối.)
  • Peter sounds as if he gets a stomach. (Peter nghe cứ như anh ấy bị đau bụng)
  • John looked happy as though he just won the price. (John trông có vẻ vui cứ như là anh ấy vừa thắng giải thưởng.)

2. Cấu trúc As if As though diễn tả tình huống có thật

Trong trường hợp này, cấu trúc As if As though mô tả những tình huống có thật (là các sự việc, sự vật rất rõ ràng). Việc dùng cấu trúc As if As though có tác dụng diễn tả, so sánh hiện tượng, sự vật, sự việc.

2.1. Ở hiện tại

S + Vs/es + as if / as though + S + Vs/es…

Ví dụ: 

• Peter runs as if he has nothing to lose. (Peter chạy như thể anh ấy không còn gì để mất).

2.2. Ở quá khứ

S + V-ed + as if / as though + S + V-ed…

Ví dụ: 

• Cody ran as if someone were chasing him. (Cody chạy như thể có ai đang đuổi theo anh ấy).

3. Cấu trúc As if As though diễn tả tình huống không có thật

3.1. Ở hiện tại

Cấu trúc As if As though cũng được dùng để diễn tả tình huống không có thật, có thể diễn tả những tình huống giả định, không có xảy ra trong hiện tại.

Cấu trúc:

S + Vs/es + as if / as though + S + V-ed

Chú ý: Sau As if As though, sử dụng động từ “to be” là “were” với bất kỳ chủ ngữ nào.

Ví dụ.: 

• Jenny dresses as if it were winter even in the summer. (Jenny ăn mặc cứ như bây giờ là mùa đông mặc dù đang trong mùa hè).

→ Trời bây giờ không phải mùa đông.

• Anna acts as though she were rich. (Anna cứ làm như thể là cô ta giàu có lắm).

→ Thực tế Anna không giàu.

• Linda talks as if she knew everything in the world. (Linda nói như thể cô ấy biết mọi thứ về thế giới).

→ Thực tế Linda không biết gì nhiều.

3.2. Ở quá khứ

Cấu trúc As if As though khi được sử dụng để mô tả lại tình huống không có thật, nghĩa là nó diễn tả một tình huống giả định, không xảy ra trong quá khứ.

Cấu trúc:

S + V-ed + as if / as though + S + V-p2

Ví dụ.: 

• Jenny looked as though she had seen a ghost. (Jenny trông như thể cô ấy vừa thấy ma.)

→ Thực tế Jenny không thấy ma.

• Peter talked about the competition as if he had won the prize. (Peter nói về cuộc thi như thể anh ấy đã đạt được giải.)

→ Thực tế Peter không đạt giải nào cả.

4. Cách sử dụng cấu trúc As if As though khác

Ngoài những cách dùng As if As though nêu trên, có một số trường hợp cấu trúc As if As though không theo nguyên tắc đó là: sử dụng to + V hoặc cụm giới từ đi theo sau.

Cấu trúc:

S + Vs/es/ed + as if / as though + to V / cụm giới từ

Ví dụ:  

• • Peter ran out as though to chase the thief. (Peter chạy ra ngoài cứ như để đuổi theo tên trộm.)
  • Our team looked at each other as if in doubt. (Nhóm tôi nhìn nhau cứ thể là nghi ngờ nhau vậy).

5. Lưu ý khi dùng cấu trúc As if As though

Mệnh đề đằng sau cấu trúc As if As though không hẳn luôn theo các quy tắc trên. Trong một số trường hợp, nếu điều kiện ở trong câu là có thật hoặc theo người nói điều đó là sự thật thì các công thức As if As though trên không được áp dụng. Động từ tại mệnh đề sau của cấu trúc As if As though diễn biến bình thường theo mối quan hệ cùng với mệnh đề chính.

• Ví dụ: John looks as if he has finished fixing his car. (Trông John cứ như đã sửa xong xe ô tô của anh ấy rồi).
