Price: 50 dollars
Reasons: To prepare for Tet Holiday
Feeling:

In offered images: wine-red color, look opulent
In reality: pale red + too long
In the end ➡ could learn a lesson and know how to take something into consideration before buying.

I am a shopaholic who has maintained a lifestyle of making impulse buys, but, lucky for me, I hardly felt regret after placing orders as all of the goods have more or less application in my life. However, last Tet Holiday, I ordered a dress that cost about 50 dollars on an online shopping app, and I had to cry over the spilt milk after receiving it. Actually, I have no idea about how others define "expensive", but to me, 50 dollars were really over my budget.
14 days before the Tet, I didn't want to be jostled in the crowd in boutiques, so I chose online shopping. While I was surfing, I came across a long gorgeous red dress sold by a Chinese shop, which was suitable for a holiday such as Tet. At first, I hesitated because there was no feedback, but after thinking for a while, I decided to throw caution to the wind and buy it. I so adored this dress that I imagined what I would look like in it every single night before hitting the hay.
I was so excited because I could get my long-awaited dress after 8 days. However, after unboxing and holding the dress in my hands, I was disappointed as the dress itself didn’t match its images. It looked opulent with a wine-red color in pictures, while it was pale red in the flesh. Plus, it was too long for me, even when I chose the smallest size.
So, I had to have a tailor fix it, and I paid nearly 3 dollars for that. In the end, I realized that I had spent more than I anticipated, and sadly it was over-priced for a dress like that. I was miserable, while my mother rubbed salt into the wound by complaining continuously about it.
Anyway, after this, I could learn a valuable lesson. To be honest, I have taken items into careful consideration before purchasing them.

Bài mẫu
Depending on how one defines “expensive”, I am not exactly very much in favour of buying many expensive items unless I am thoroughly convinced about their usage and benefits. After all, I don’t really like to regret after buying such an expensive item.
But, that’s exactly what had happened to me when I bought my last pair of “expensive” shoes from a “so-called” world-famous brand. Of course, the problem is, I never really thought that I would need to worry about regretting my decision after buying that item because the products, made by this world-famous brand, generally maintain very high quality from start to finish. Besides, a couple of my friends had also purchased their products in the past from the same company but never really complained about it.
But, when I bought my shoes from the same brand about a year ago, I felt like I had been “cheated”, to say the least, as those expensive shoes of mine started to lose their shine and look only after wearing them for about a few weeks.
By the way, I decided to buy those shoes, mainly because I heard that they were very comfortable to wear and that they could be used in all kinds of weather conditions. Besides, I must also say that those shoes had such a nice and unique design and appealing leather finish that they could attract an average customer like me very easily. So, I guess, I had more than enough arguments or reasons in my defence to buy that pair of expensive shoes.
But, the truth is, I was really very disappointed after buying those shoes, primarily because they looked very “ordinary” to me at the end of the day. I also regret the decision because I didn’t really use my common sense or common wisdom to check the overall quality of that expensive item before buying it. But, hey, at least I learned my lesson that it doesn’t necessarily mean that something has to be good just because it is expensive!
Câu trả lời mẫu IELTS Speaking Part 3: Expensive things
Expensive things - một trong các chủ đề giám khảo cân nhắc sử dụng trong bài thi Speaking Part 3 của thí sinh sau câu hỏi Describe an expensive item that you bought and regretted ở Part 2. 1. What kind of expensive things do people like to buy?
I can’t say for sure as it depends on the individual's preferences and financial ability. But I think some people might be keen on purchasing technological devices such as smartphones and computers for multiple purposes like studying or working.
Others also spend large amounts of money on such things as designer clothes or jewelry with high quality. I suppose one of the reasons is that they want to stand out in a crowd instead of falling into the trap of looking like everyone else.
Preference (noun): sở thích
To be keen on (phr.): thích thú
Multiple (adj.): nhiều
Jewelry (noun): trang sức
Stand out (phr. v.): nổi bật
Fall into the trap of doing something (idiom): mắc sai lầm
2. What is the difference between men and women in buying things?
I would argue that the shopping habits of males and females are like chalk and cheese. Men tend to be more utilitarian; in other words, they focus more on the practicality of an item. Plus, when going into a store, men would look for a specific product they want and buy it as quickly as possible.
Unlike their counterparts, women are more likely to be influenced by aesthetics, such as colors or designs. Additionally, while going shopping, girls are unmindful of the time. They can spend hours searching for the products, comparing materials, or sometimes, pick up bargains.
Like chalk and cheese (idiom): khác nhau 1 trời 1 vực
Utilitarian (adj.): thực dụng (có tính ứng dụng thực tế)
Aesthetics (noun): gu thẩm mỹ
Unmindful (adj.): Không lưu tâm/ không để ý đến
Pick up a bargain (phr.): mặc cả
3. What are the advantages and disadvantages of being rich?
I think the first privilege of rich people is that they can buy any items in high street names without worrying about the price. Plus, they would also have golden opportunities like having better education or traveling to many destinations. These may be unattainable for those who are poverty-stricken.
However, being rich certainly has its downsides. It would be harder for wealthy people to build genuine relationships. Many money-conscious people would pretend like them because they want something in return.
Privilege (noun): Đặc quyền
High street names (noun): những cửa hiệu nổi tiếng
Golden opportunity (noun phr.): cơ hội vàng
Unattainable (adj.): không thể có được
Poverty-stricken (adj.): rất nghèo
Genuine (adj.): thành thật, chân thật
Money-oriented (adj.): ham vật chất
