Định nghĩa Figure out

Cụm từ Figure out là sự kết hợp giữa động từ “figure” và giới từ “out”, mang nghĩa chung là hiếu hoặc giải quyết gì đó. Khi đóng vai trò là một danh từ, figure out mang nghĩa diễn tả về các con số như số liệu hay số lượng. 

Ngoài ra trong một vài trường hợp danh từ figure out sẽ diễn tả hình dáng của người hoặc vật. 

Còn đối với vai trò là một cụm động từ, figure out sẽ mang nghĩa là tìm kiếm được thông tin hay kết quả về sự vật, hiện tượng nào đó có mục đích của chủ thể hành động. 

Ví dụ:

• We are trying to figure out the best selection for both sides. (Chúng tôi đang cố gắng tìm ra lựa chọn tốt nhất cho cả hai bên.)
• It took him about 3 days to figure out how to solve the problems. (Anh ấy đã mất 3 ngày để tìm ra cách giải quyết những vấn đề đó)

Cách dùng của cấu trúc Figure out

1. Figure out kết hợp với WH

Đi sau cụm động từ Figure out thường sẽ là những từ để hỏi WH với ý nghĩa tìm ra cái gì, như thế nào…

• Công thức: Figure out + why/ what/ how + clause

Ví dụ:

• If we know the cause of the results, we will be able to figure out how to solving it. (Nếu chúng tôi biết nguyên nhân của hậu quả, chúng tôi sẽ có thể tìm ra cách để giải quyết chúng.)
• In this problem we have three ways to solve, but I need to figure out the fastest selection. (Vấn đề này chúng tôi có 3 cách giải quyết nhưng tôi cần tìm ra lựa chọn tốt nhất.)

2. Figure out kết hợp với danh từ

Đi sau cụm từ Figure out cũng có thể là một danh từ thường với ý nghĩa tìm ra, lý giải điều gì đó.

Ví dụ:

• When she figure out the selection, she will raise her hand. (Khi cô ấy có được sự lựa chọn, cô ấy sẽ giơ tay lên.)

Phân biệt Figure out với Work out và Find out

Cách dùng của Figure out:

Figure out có nghĩa là tìm kiếm, hiểu ra hay truy tìm một điều gì đó có mục đích chủ ý từ trước. 

Ví dụ:

• The best solution to solve the task is to figure out their root. (Giải pháp tốt nhất để giải quyết nhiệm vụ này là tìm ra gốc rễ của chúng.)
• My sister did not come home last night, my parents still cannot figure out why. (Chị của tôi đa không về nhà đêm qua, bố mẹ tôi vẫn không biết tại sao)

Cách dùng của Find out:

Find out dùng để chỉ tình huống tìm ra thông tin hay câu trả lời cho một sự vật, sự việc ngẫu nhiên không có chủ đích.

Ví dụ:

• I find out that my grandmother was a teacher. (Tôi tình cờ phát hiện bà tôi là một giáo viên.)
• Jim found out his wife was cheating on him when he accidentally found the evidence in the bag. (Jim biết được vợ anh ta đang lừa dối mình vì anh ấy vô tình phát hiện bằng chứng trong túi xách.)

Cách dùng của Work out:

Cụm từ Work out mang 2 nghĩa là tập thể dục hay là tìm ra một thông tin gì đó dựa trên những tính toán đã nghiên cứu từ trước. Với ý nghĩa này có thể dụng thường xuyên trong các nghiên cứu hay bài viết học thuật khi bàn về kết quả hay một quá trình. 

Ví dụ:

• Several studies needed to be conducted to work out that a fault had been committed in this. (Thực hiện nhiều nghiên cứu khác để tìm ra lỗi sai trong nghiên cứu này.)
