Elementary Teaching Assistant is in charge of supporting planning and preparing lessons for ES students and is in charge of planning and preparing lessons including group instruction for Vietnamese Language lessons when assigned and formative and summative assessment.
Elementary Teaching Assistant will also assist in communicating with students, and parents, as well as supporting in the management of classroom, and students' behaviors.
Essential duties and responsibilities:
1. Planning and Preparation
a. Demonstrating knowledge of the SSIS Mission, Core Values, and Curriculum Framework
b. Demonstrating knowledge of students, including names, families, and academic performance levels
c. Understand instructional outcomes for all learning experiences and help communicate them to students
d. Demonstrate knowledge of resources within the school and Vietnam
e. Contribute to the design of instruction for various learning experiences
f. Contribute to the creation of student assessments
g. Plan lessons for small group instruction of Vietnamese Language lessons, including formative and summative assessment.
2. Classroom Environment
a. Contribute to a positive classroom and school environment, including assisting children with practical or interpersonal problems and supporting positive behavior throughout the school.
b. Contribute to a culture of academic excellence
c. Support all classroom procedures to ensure smooth management of the classroom
d. Manage student behavior: supervise and help students learn respectful behavior throughout the school campus.
e. Enhance the learning environment: prepare lesson supplies/materials/equipment, display interactive learning displays in room and hallways, locate and/or purchase local materials, and organize and retrieve storeroom supplies.
f. Independently establish a positive classroom environment for Vietnamese Language lessons.
3. Instruction
a. Communicate with students; establish positive relationships
b. Use questioning and discussion techniques that promote critical thinking
c. Engage students in learning through differentiating activities
d. Contribute to the use of assessment for learning, and differentiate learning for individual students
e. Demonstrate flexibility and responsiveness in a dynamic learning environment
f. Independently provide quality instruction of Vietnamese Language lessons.
4. Professional Responsibilities
a. Reflect on the teaching and learning process; make suggestions for improvement
b. Maintain accurate records, including attendance, assessment, and communication
c. Communicate with families, including translation when necessary
d. Participate in the professional community, connect with all members of the school community
e. Grow and develop professionally to become a better educator
f. Demonstrate professional behavior, including dress, speech, and interactions. g. Fulfill all professional responsibilities related to independently providing Vietnamese Language lessons.
h. Attendance at staff meetings to plan events and activities, consider school issues, discuss student work and lesson plans, and adapt curriculum and instruction to student needs when required
5. Performs other assignment requested by the teacher/ Associate Principal/ Principal from time to time● Knowledge, Education and Experience:
▪ Technical Knowledge: BA degree in Education or Equivalent Degree
▪ Years of experience: At least three years of experience.
▪ Experience in Apple environment is a plus.
● Skills:
▪ Strong English language and communication skills;
▪ Intermediate level experience in computer applications, including word processing and spreadsheets, experience with Mac computers and Apple software preferred
▪ Broad skills in assigned-subject/ class (Specialist classes such as Music) Ability to collaborate professionally with others
▪ Strong interest in growing as a professional
● Abilities:
▪ The ability to communicate information clearly in speaking, and writing.
▪ Able to take on the class when the teacher is absent.
▪ Well organized
▪ Ability to work multi tasks effectively.
▪ Attend PD offerings, workshops, faculty meeting as required
