With a view to là gì?

Cụm liên từ trên bao gồm ba thành phần chính: Giới từ “with” có nghĩa là với, “view” mang nghĩa là ý kiến, là quan điểm của một người, còn giới từ “to” tức là tới, hoặc hướng tới.

=> Chính vì vậy, qua các từ đơn trên, thí sinh có thể đoán được rằng cụm liên từ này mang ý nghĩa chỉ làm việc nào đó với quan điểm hướng tới mục tiêu gì, hay nói cách khác, là “để đạt được”, “với mục đích”.

Có thể thấy, về mặt ngữ nghĩa, cụm từ trên có cách dùng giống như “In order to”/ “To”/ “So as to”, “In order that”/ “So that”, về mặt chữ viết, thí sinh lại dễ nhầm lẫn nó với “in view of”. Để tránh việc nhầm lẫn trong đáng có, bài viết sẽ phân tích chi tiết từng cấu trúc.

Cấu trúc và cách sử dụng With a view to

Sau cụm liên từ này, thí sinh có thể sử dụng một danh từ, một cụm danh từ, hoặc một danh động từ.

Cấu trúc With a view to:

With a view to + (doing) something

Ví dụ: 

• These measures were taken with a view to increasing the company's profits. 

(Những biện pháp này được thực hiện để tăng lợi nhuận cho công ty)

• The policies are implemented with a view to citizens' happiness.

(Những chính sách được áp dụng để người dân được hạnh phúc)

Trong hai ví dụ trên, thí sinh có thể thấy ở ví dụ 1, sau cụm liên từ này là một cụm danh động từ hay là một động từ dạng V-ing “increasing the company's profits”. Và, khi để ý ở ví dụ thứ 2 lại là một cụm danh từ “citizens' happiness”. Vì vậy, từ hai ví dụ trên, mong rằng có thể phần nào giúp thí sinh nhớ rõ hơn về cách sử dụng của cụm liên từ này.

Phân biệt With a view to với In view of

Ví dụ: 

• In view of unfavorable weather conditions, the event has to be held indoors to ensure participants' safety and well-being.

(Bởi điều kiện thời tiết không thuận lợi, sự kiện phải được tổ chức trong nhà để đảm bảo sự an toàn và sức khoẻ cho những người tham gia)

• Processing is inevitably slower in view of increased security measures.

(Quá trình xử lý chắc chắn sẽ chậm hơn do các biện pháp bảo mật được tăng cường.)

Phân biệt With a view to với In order to/ To/ So as to, In order that/ So that

Cả sáu cụm liên từ đều có nghĩa là “để, để mà”, được dùng trong câu để giới thiệu về mục đích của hành động được nhắc đến ngay trước đó. Tuy nhiên, cấu trúc của chúng lại khác nhau rất nhiều.

Cấu trúc của “In order to”/ “To”/ “So as to”: Main clause (Mệnh đề chính) + (in order) to + verb (bare infinitive)

Ví dụ: Mrs. Weaver had to work full-time in order to earn a living for herself and her family of five children.

(Bà Weaver phải làm việc toàn thời gian để kiếm sống cho bản thân và gia đình gồm năm người con.)

Cấu trúc của “In order that”/ “So that”: Main clause (Mệnh đề chính) + in order that/ so that + subordinate clause (Mệnh đề phụ thuộc)

Ví dụ: Mrs. Weaver had to work full-time so that she could earn a living for herself and her family of five children.

(Bà Weaver phải làm việc toàn thời gian để bà có thể kiếm sống cho bản thân và gia đình gồm năm người con.)
