Các giới từ chỉ Thời gian trong tiếng Anh | Cách dùng - Bài tập vận dụng

Khái niệm giới từ chỉ thời gian

Giới từ chỉ thời gian là những giới từ đi cùng các từ chỉ mốc thời gian, khoảng thời gian,... để nói về thời điểm xảy ra sự việc được nhắc tới trong câu. Chúng có tác dụng làm rõ ý nghĩa về mặt thời gian cho sự việc được nhắc đến trong câu.

Những giới từ chỉ thời gian trong tiếng Anh có thể là các từ đơn lẻ, có thể là các cụm từ đi kèm. Chúng được dùng trong các cấu trúc khác nhau, tìm hiểu ngay trong các cấu trúc dưới đây.

Cách dùng giới từ chỉ thời gian

1. Giới từ In

Thường đứng trước các tháng, năm.

Ví dụ: in January, in October, in 1990, in 2002,...

• I bought a new dress in January.

(Tôi đã mua một chiếc váy mới vào tháng 1)

• I was born in 2002.

(Tôi sinh ra vào năm 2002)

• She went to the beach in 2016 and saw him.

(Cô ấy đã đến bãi biển vào năm 2016 và đã gặp được anh ấy)

Thường đứng trước các mùa trong năm.

Ví dụ: in the summer, in the winter,...

• She often goes swimming in the summer.

(Cô ấy thường xuyên đi bơi vào mùa hè)

• I will meet him in the spring.

(Tôi sẽ gặp anh ấy vào mùa xuân)

Thường đứng trước một buổi trong ngày, một khoảng thời gian,...

Ví dụ: in the morning, in the afternoon, in the evening, in three days, in 5 minutes,...

• She always wakes up early in the morning.

(Cô ấy luôn dậy rất sớm vào buổi sáng)

• We will be ready in 5 minutes.

(Chúng tôi sẽ sẵn sàng trong 5 phút nữa)

2. Giới từ On

• On + Ngày + Tháng

Ví dụ: On 2nd July, On the 1st of January,...

• On + Ngày + một buổi trong ngày

Ví dụ: On Monday afternoon, on Tuesday morning,...

• Thường đứng trước một dịp đặc biệt.

Ví dụ:

• My friend gave me a sweater on my birthday.

(Bạn tôi tặng cho tôi một chiếc áo vào ngày sinh nhật)

• I go to the park on holiday.

(Tôi đến công viên vào ngày nghỉ)

3. Giới từ At

• Thường đứng trước giờ, thời gian trong ngày

Ví dụ: at 6 o’clock, at 6:30, at noon, at night, at midnight, at weekend, at lunchtime, at dinnertime, at breakfast time,...

• Thường đứng trước các ngày lễ trong năm

Ví dụ: at Christmas, at Easter,...

4. Một số giới từ khác

• Giới từ for: Thường chỉ những hành động trong 1 khoảng thời gian

Ví dụ: For 2 days, for 3 days,...

• Giới từ Since: Để chỉ mốc thời gian

Ví dụ: since tomorrow, since 2002,...

• Giới từ until/till: Chỉ cho đến thời gian nào đó

Ví dụ: Till the end, until I come,...

• Giới từ after, before: Muộn hơn hoặc sớm hơn một khoảng thời gian nào đó

Ví dụ: after lunch, before Tet holiday,...

• Cụm giới từ From...to: Một khoảng thời gian xác định

Ví dụ: from Friday to Saturday (Từ thứ 6 tới thứ 7),...

Lưu ý: Không được sử dụng các giới từ chỉ thời gian như in, on, at trước các từ every, last,...

Vị trí của giới từ trong câu

Các giới từ in, on, at chỉ thời gian và có thể đứng ở nhiều vị trí khác nhau. Giống như giới từ thông thường, chúng thường đứng ở các vị trí:

• Giới từ thường đứng ở sau động từ “to be” và ở trước danh từ.

• Giới từ cũng có thể đứng ở cuối câu và kết thúc câu.

• Đứng sau động từ, tính từ.

• Đứng sau danh từ để bổ nghĩa cho danh từ.

Một số loại giới từ thông dụng trong tiếng Anh

Trong tiếng Anh có rất nhiều các giới từ khác nhau. Dưới đây là một số loại giới từ phổ biến nhất:

• Giới từ chỉ địa điểm: in, on, at, by, before, behind, under, next, below, over, above, across,…

• Giới từ chỉ chuyển động của sự vật: across, along,…

• Giới từ chỉ mục đích hoặc chức năng: to, for, in order to, so as to (để)

• Giới từ chỉ nguyên nhân: for, because of, owing to + Ving/ Noun (vì, bởi vì),...

• Giới từ chỉ tác nhân hay phương tiện: with (bằng), by (bằng, bởi),… 

• Giới từ chỉ sự đo lường, số lượng: by (theo, khoảng)
