Cấu trúc it is said that được dùng trong câu tường thuật (câu bị động), với ý nghĩa “nói rằng”, “chỉ ra rằng”. Người ta sử dụng cấu trúc này để tường thuật lại một sự vật, sự việc, hiện tượng đã xảy ra nhằm thông báo thông tin được nhắc đến.
Cấu trúc it is the first time có nghĩa là “đây là lần đầu tiên”. Nó cũng có thể dùng để thay thế cho this is the first time với ý nghĩa, cách dùng tương tự.
