In order that là gì? Trong tiếng Anh, in order that được hiểu đơn thuần là một trong những mệnh đề chỉ mục đích. Nghĩa của In order that là “để mà”.
Ví dụ: My mother phones me everyday in order that she can ensure I am still okay with my new life at university.
Mẹ tôi gọi điện cho tôi mỗi ngày để bà ấy có thể đảm bảo là tôi vẫn đang ổn với cuộc sống mới ở đại học.
Ví dụ: We make an eco-green campaign in order that we can deliver the message of stop littering inside the school.
Chúng tôi thực hiện một chiến dịch xanh để có thể truyền tải thông điệp ngừng xả rác trong trường học.
In order that có thể đi với “Bàng thái cách hiện tại” và được hiểu đơn giản là động từ nguyên mẫu không có to. Ta có 2 cấu trúc liên quan đến in order that
Mệnh đề + In order that + Chủ ngữ + Vị ngữ
Mệnh đề + In order that + Chủ ngữ + Trợ động từ + Động từ nguyên mẫu
Lưu ý:
Ví dụ:
Tôi học hành chăm chỉ để tôi có thể đạt được học bổng du học nước Mỹ.
Trong câu, do không có sự xuất hiện của not nên ta có thể dùng trợ động từ can.
2. She sets 3 alarms in order that she would not be late for the interview.
Cô ấy cài 3 cái báo thức liên tục để không bị trễ giờ phỏng vấn.
Ở tình huống này, do trong câu có not nhưng mục đích không phải là ngăn cấm nên ta dùng wouldn’t thay vì couldn’t
Khi phía sau các động từ Want, Like, Hope,… có xuất hiện túc từ thì lúc này, để tạo thành một câu in order that hoàn chỉnh, ta lấy túc từ đó ra làm chủ từ.
Ở mệnh đề thứ hai của in order that nếu xuất hiện các động từ Want, Like, Hope,…. thì lúc này bạn bỏ động từ đi và thay vào đó bằng các trợ động từ tương ứng.
Ví dụ:
I try to save as much money as I can, I want to buy this iPhone14.
=> Chuyển sang cấu trúc in order that: I try to save much money as I can in order that I can buy this iPhone14.
Như bạn đã thấy, trong trường hợp này mệnh đề thứ hai ở câu văn ban đầu có xuất hiện động từ want, do vậy, khi chuyển sang câu với in order that, ta tiến hành bỏ want và thay bằng trợ động từ can.
Các liên từ như in order that, so that và in order to có cách dùng khá tương tự nhau, tuy nhiên, nếu xét tổng thể chúng vẫn có sự khác biệt:
