Nevertheless là gì?

Nevertheless nghĩa là gì? Nevertheless có nghĩa là tuy nhiên, dẫu vậy, tuy thế mà. Nó được sử dụng như một trạng từ liên kết - conjunctive adverb. Ví dụ:

• The competition was high. Nevertheless, I won. (Sự cạnh tranh rất cao. Mặc dù thế, tôi đã thắng.)
• The test was very difficult; nevertheless, I earned a good grade. (Bài kiểm tra rất khó, mặc dù vậy, tôi đã đạt điểm cao.)

Vị trí Nevertheless trong câu 

Nevertheless đứng ở đầu câu, cuối câu hoặc giữa câu, tùy thuộc vào từng trường hợp, từng cách dùng. Ví dụ: 

• It is raining heavily. Nevertheless, she went out. (Trời mưa rất to. Dù vậy, cô ấy vẫn ra ngoài.) ➡ Nevertheless đứng ở vị trí đầu câu.
• The interview was difficult, nevertheless, I passed. (Buổi phỏng vấn rất khó; mặc dù vậy, tôi đã đậu.) ➡ Nevertheless đứng ở vị trí giữa câu. 
• My house is guarded around the clock, thieves still break in nevertheless. (Nhà tôi đóng cửa suốt ngày đêm, mặc dù vậy bọn trộm vẫn đột nhập vào được.) ➡ Nevertheless đứng ở vị trí cuối câu. 

Cách dùng cấu trúc Nevertheless

Cấu trúc Nevertheless thường được dùng để diễn tả những thông tin có tính gây ngạc nhiên, hoặc để diễn đạt điều gì đó trái ngược với những gì đã đề cập trước đó. Dưới đây là cách dùng cấu trúc Nevertheless trong từng trường hợp cụ thể:

1. Nevertheless đứng đầu câu 

Nevertheless đứng cầu câu, là trạng từ nối ý tương phản giữa 2 câu. Lưu ý, bạn cần tuân thủ quy tắc về dấu câu khi sử dụng. 

Cấu trúc Nevertheless đứng đầu câu:

Ví dụ cách dùng:

• He stopped working as a doctor in 2010. Nevertheless, he remained active in medical research. (Ông ấy đã thôi làm bác sĩ từ năm 2012. Mặc dù vậy, ông ấy vẫn tích cực nghiên cứu về y học.)
• The weather was sunny; nevertheless, I didn’t go to the beach. (Thời tiết nắng đẹp; mặc dù vậy, tôi đã không đi biển.)

2. Nevertheless đứng giữa câu

Trong trường hợp này, Nevertheless đóng vai trò là trạng từ liên kết giới thiệu (introductory conjunctive adverb). 

Cấu trúc Nevertheless đứng giữa câu:

Ví dụ:

• Some people disagree with this idea, nevertheless, nobody speaks up. (Một số người không đồng ý với ý kiến này, mặc dù vậy, không ai lên tiếng.)
• They expressed their personal opinion, nevertheless, it was impolite. (Họ bày tỏ quan điểm cá nhân, tuy nhiên đó là bất lịch sự). 

Chú ý, sau Nevertheless cần có dấu phẩy. Trong trường hợp đặc biệt, khi Nevertheless bổ nghĩa cho các từ liền kề như động từ, tính từ, hay trạng từ khác thì không cần dấu phẩy đi kèm. 

Ví dụ:

• Although already crazy due to the heavy traffic, I was nevertheless calm. (Mặc dù bực bội vì tắc đường, tôi vẫn bình tĩnh.)
• The project failed. I have nevertheless decided to start again. (Dự án đã thất bại. Mặc dù vậy tôi đã quyết định bắt đầu lại.)

3. Nevertheless đứng cuối câu

Nevertheless nằm ở cuối câu biểu thị ý nghĩa dù có việc gì xảy ra thì chủ thể vẫn thực hiện hành động, tuy nhiên, có khoảng thời gian dừng và cân nhắc trước khi quyết định thực hiện. 

Cấu trúc Nevertheless đứng cuối câu:

Lưu ý: Trong trường hợp này, dấu phẩy trong cấu trúc Nevertheless có thể có hoặc không. 

Ví dụ: 

• My project failed. I would start the project again, nevertheless. (Dự án đã thất bại. Mặc dù vậy tôi sẽ bắt đầu lại dự án.)
• I knew everything about the film, but I watched it again nevertheless. (Mặc dù tôi đã biết mọi thứ về bộ phim, nhưng tôi vẫn xem lại nó.)
