Promise | Định nghĩa, cấu trúc, vị trí và bài tập vận dụng
Promise mang nghĩa là lời hứa hoặc hứa hẹn. Đây là động từ thường theo quy tắc, ở dạng quá khứ đơn và quá khứ phân từ (P2) đều được thêm -ed thành “promised”.
Các vị trí cơ bản của cấu trúc Promise trong câu như sau:
--- Promise ở sau Chủ ngữ (S)
--- Promise đứng phía trước Tân ngữ (O)
--- Promise ở sau các Trạng từ (Adv)
Ví dụ:
Sara has just promised her father better grades in the next exam. (Sara vừa hứa với bố cô ấy rằng sẽ được điểm cao hơn trong bài kiểm tra sắp tới.)
=> Trong câu này, cấu trúc Promise đứng sau chủ ngữ “Sara” và trạng từ chỉ thời gian “just”, đứng trước tân ngữ “her father”.

Nghĩa là hứa hẹn sẽ cho ai cái gì hoặc hứa với ai về một sự việc gì đó. Đi sau Promise là tân ngữ O và danh từ. |

Promise + to do something = Hứa hẹn sẽ làm điều gì, việc gì Promise + that + clause = Hứa hẹn rằng … |
Cấu trúc Promise trong câu gián tiếp này có nghĩa là hứa hẹn sẽ cho ai cái gì hoặc hứa với ai về một sự việc gì đó. |
=> The doctor promised to make Hanna feel much better with her tea. = The doctor promised that he’d make Hanna feel much better with her tea.
=> John promised to be here in 1 hour. = John promised Hanna that he’d be here in 1 hour. |
