Khái niệm về trạng từ chỉ tần suất (adverbs of frequency)

Trạng từ chỉ tần suất là loại từ thể hiện mức độ xảy ra của hiện tượng hay sự kiện nào đó. Thông thường bạn học sẽ thấy trạng từ này được sử dụng miêu tả mức độ thường xuyên. Tuy nhiên trạng từ chỉ tần suất linh hoạt trong nhiều mức độ khác nhau như scarcely (hiếm khi), sometimes (thỉnh thoảng…).

Ví dụ:

• I usually go to school by bus (Tớ thường xuyên tới trường bằng xe buýt)
• I’m never at home on Monday (Tớ không bao giờ ở nhà vào thứ 2)

Cách dùng trạng từ chỉ tần suất (Adverbs of frequency)

1. Trạng từ chỉ tần suất miêu tả mức độ của sự việc

Trong trường hợp người nói muốn miêu tả sự việc đó xảy ra nhiều hay ít, có thể sử dụng trạng từ chỉ tần suất.

Ví dụ:

• My mom always prepares breakfast for me. (Mẹ tôi luôn luôn chuẩn bị bữa sáng cho tôi)
• My father usually wake up at 5 A.M (Bố tôi thường xuyên dậy vào lúc 5 giờ sáng)

2. Trạng từ chỉ tần suất dùng trong câu trả lời câu hỏi “How often…?”

“How often” là câu hỏi về tần suất, mức độ vì thế trả lời cho câu hỏi này cần dùng tới trạng từ chỉ tần suất. 

Ví dụ:

• How often do you have breakfast? (Bạn có thường xuyên dùng bữa sáng không?)
• Sometimes, because I have to go to school early. (Thỉnh thoảng, bởi vì tôi phải tới trường sớm)

Vị trí của trạng từ chỉ tần suất khi dùng tiếng Anh

1. Trạng từ chỉ tần suất đứng ở đầu câu

Nếu đứng ở đầu câu, trạng từ sẽ nhấn mạnh đến mức độ của hành động.

Ví dụ: Usually, I cleans the house on weekends. (Tôi thường xuyên lau nhà vào cuối tuần).

Lưu ý: Một số trạng từ chỉ tần suất không được đứng ở vị trí đầu câu như: often, always. Trong câu nếu trạng từ chỉ tần suất ở đầu câu thì ngăn cách bằng dấu phảy với thành phần còn lại. 

2. Trạng từ chỉ tần suất đứng ở giữa câu

• Trạng từ đứng ở sau động từ “tobe” 

Ví dụ: I am always excited about new things. (Tôi luôn luôn hào hứng về những thứ mới mẻ).

• Trạng từ đứng trước động từ thường

Ví dụ: I usually exercises. (Tôi thường xuyên tập thể dục)

• Trạng từ đứng trước động từ chính và trợ động từ

Trường hợp này thường thấy ở thì hiện tại hoàn thành.

Ví dụ: My mom has never gone to cinema before. (Mẹ tôi chưa bao giờ đi xem phim trước đây)

3. Trạng từ chỉ tần suất đứng ở cuối câu

Bạn học có thể hiếm gặp trường hợp trạng từ chỉ tần suất đứng ở cuối câu. Tuy nhiên một vài trường hợp vẫn được sử dụng.

Ví dụ: I confess to my mom occasionally. (Tôi thỉnh thoảng khi tâm sự với mẹ)

4. Một số trường hợp ngoại lệ

• Trạng từ đứng trước “used to” và “have to”

Ví dụ: Lan’s teacher scarcely has to remind her of something. (Giáo viên của Lan hiếm khi phải nhắc nhở cô ấy điều gì)

• Trạng từ đứng trước trợ động từ trong câu hỏi và câu nhận xét

Ví dụ: Can your father park car near the house? Yes, he often can. (Bố của cậu có thể đậu xe gần nhà chứ? Có chứ, ông ấy thường xuyên làm vậy)

• Always /ˈɔːlweɪz/: Luôn luôn
• Usually /ˈjuːʒuəli/: Thường xuyên
• Normally /ˈnɔːməli/: Thường xuyên
• Generally /ˈdʒenrəli/: Thông thường
• Often /ˈɒfn/: Thông thường, thường lệ
• Frequently /ˈfriːkwənsi/: Thường thường
• Sometimes /ˈsʌmtaɪmz/: Đôi khi, đôi lúc
• Occasionally /əˈkeɪʒnəli/: Thỉnh thoảng
• Hardly ever /ˈhɑːdli evə(r)/: Hầu như không bao giờ
• Rarely /ˈreəli/: Hiếm khi
• Never /ˈnevə(r)/: Không bao giờ
