The following expectations of a successful Teacher are not prioritized but rather, are all considered to be prerequisites of an effective Teacher.

Expectations of Professional Practice
The teacher establishes and maintains a positive, caring and engaging learning environment that supports the School’s Objectives and Strategic Plan.

Positive
1. Creates positive classroom communities based on respect and positive education.
2. Takes a positive approach to student discipline both in and out of the classroom within the school’s framework for restorative practices.
3. Conducts careful and varied assessment of student learning with regular feedback that allows each child to demonstrate growth over time and adapt to their individual needs.
4. Participates actively in curriculum development including collaborative planning, vertical and horizontal reviews and documentation in Atlas Rubicon.
5. Promotes a culture of growth and lifelong learning by participating fully in ‘Let’s Talk’ and in-service professional development.
6. Reflects on educational data to measure student growth and inform teacher practices.

Caring
1. Promotes a safe and caring environment for students by adhering to the Code of Conduct as well as relevant policies at all times (ie. the Educational Visit policies and Health and Safety policy)
2. Manage the classroom including student behavior and resources in a way that ensures safety, well-being, and learning.
3. Attends purposefully to the personal, social development and pastoral care of students in collaboration with the Student Services Department. This includes writing referrals and adapting practices to student needs.
4. Communicates proactively and positively with parents in consultation with Student Services.
5. Conducts an advisory in alignment with the established curriculum.

Engaged
1. Promotes active, differentiated, and reflective learning in the classroom that engages all students in learning.
2. Demonstrates a sound knowledge of both course content and second language development and communicates high expectations for students and parents.
3. Uses contemporary ICT to support learning in a responsible manner and in accordance with the Code of Conduct and the ICT Use Policy.
4. Maintains an engaging online learning environment that supports or extends the classroom to students and parents.
5. Participates actively in parent engagement activities (including but not limited to Back to School night, Parent/Teacher/Student conferences and Parent evenings) which occur outside of normal working hours.

General Expectations
1. Maintains punctuality to school, lessons, meetings, and duties.
2. Participates actively in faculty and team meetings.
3. Participates in the School’s After-School Activities program by providing a minimum of 1 season of coaching or 2 terms of ASA.
4. Participates in the School’s Field Studies program by chaperoning a sleep-away field trip (3-5 days).
5. Functions as a role model for students through personal appearance, professional dress and ethics.
6. Maintains thorough and accurate records of student achievement and attendance in PowerSchool/PowerTeacherPro.
7. Completes formal reports on student progress and achievement 4 times per year.
8. Upholds all aspects of the Code of Conduct.
9. Works to establish and maintain cooperative and collegial relationships including open lines of communication and rapport with students, parents and colleagues, including support staff. This includes respecting confidentiality and demonstrating flexibility when receiving feedback. Any conflict should be resolved in an honest, frank and non-threatening manner.
10. Presents as a role model to students and the community and does not participate in any unlawful activity including, but not limited to, the taking of any drugs banned by Vietnamese law.
11. Demonstrates sensitivity to the cultural norms of Vietnam and of ISHCMC-AA in particular and is thus respectful of language usage and cultural expectations.
12. Helps promote the positive public image of ISHCMC-AA and Cognita and expresses any criticism of Cognita, Cognita-owned schools, and ISHCMC-AA in a professional manner.

The job holder’s responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young persons for whom s/he is responsible, or with whom s/he comes into contact will be to adhere to and ensure compliance with the relevant Cognita Safeguarding; Child Protection Policy and Procedures at all times. If in the course of carrying out the duties of the role, the job holder identifies any instance that a child is suffering or likely to suffer significant harm either at school or at home, s/he must report any concerns to the School’s Child Protection Officer/Designated Safeguarding Lead or to the Head of School to the Regional CEP so that a referral can be made accordingly to the relevant third party services.
