Give off là một cụm động từ tiếng Anh mang ý nghĩa toả ra, phát ra, bốc ra. Nó được sử dụng để mô tả việc một thứ gì đó tạo ra hoặc phát ra một thứ khác, thường là dưới dạng ánh sáng, nhiệt, mùi hoặc âm thanh, là kết quả của một quá trình diễn ra tự nhiên.
Từ điển Cambridge giải nghĩa cụm từ này như sau: “to produce heat, light, a smell, or a gas” or “to produce something as a result of a natural process”.
Ví dụ:
Khi dùng cụm động từ, ta sẽ chia làm hai trường hợp cụm động từ tách rời và cụm động từ không thể tách rời. Mỗi trường hợp thì sẽ có cấu trúc khác nhau.
Trong trường hợp từ give off là cụm động từ không tách rời, ta có cấu trúc sau:

Bên cạnh give off, còn có nhiều phrasal verb khác với động từ give mang ý nghĩa khác nhau. Một số phrasal verb phổ biến bao gồm:
Lưu ý: “Give off” và “give out” tưởng chừng có nghĩa khá tương đồng với nhau đều là phân ra, phát ra nhưng hai từ này nên được dùng trong các hoàn cảnh khác nhau. Hai từ này có thể được sử dụng thay thế cho nhau trong một số trường hợp, nhưng việc sử dụng từ chính xác sẽ giúp câu văn của bạn rõ ràng và chính xác hơn.
