About us:
Damen Song Cam Shipyard Co., Ltd (DSCS) is a joint venture between Damen Workboats in the Netherlands (70%) and Song Cam Shipyard (30%), member of SBIC and based in Haiphong, Vietnam. At a 42 hectares site just outside Haiphong, Damen Song Cam is a strategic and preferred production location within the Damen Workboats to produce tug- and workboats up to 60 meters. At the moment the shipyard is a dedicated outfitting shipyard: up to 45 hulls are procured from our partner shipyards. DSCS is performing outfitting, commissioning and delivery to clients worldwide. The strategy to grow is successful. Growth in volume, expanding the product portfolio, expanding other maritime activities (services, supervision) within the group.
The role:
The QC Supervisor (Painting part) is responsible for monitoring and checking the blasting and painting activities (prior/after) to ensure that final result complies with quality requirements
Key accountabilities:
- Pre-inspection:
- Review the construction method statements and make comments per ITPs, procedures & painting specification
- Advise to develop an Inspection Test Plan (ITP) painting part and necessary QC procedures when required
- Material inspection:
- Inspect paint materials to ensure that they are stored in good condition.
- Salt test:
- Chloride Test to be carried out as per Standard (When required).
- Pre-surface Preparation inspection:
- Verify drawings and identify all spaces and specified surface preparation method for each area
- Review the painting system and paint data sheet
- Check the ambient conditions before and during blasting & painting processes
- Ensure that the surface is free of irregularities (weld spatter, slag burrs, sharp edges, pits, laminations, or other objectionable irregularities)
- Ensure surface is free of contaminants (oil, grease, salts)
- Ensure that abrasives meet specification requirements and are within contamination limits
- Ensure the air compressor is free of moisture and oil contamination
- Post-surface Preparation inspection:
- Ensure the surface preparation method meets specifications requirements
- Ensure the surface (anchor) profile meets specifications requirements
- Ensure the surface is free of contaminants and meets cleanliness specifications requirements
- Pre-coating Application inspection:
- Check the paint drum (manufacture, paint name, batch number, batch certificate, expiry date etc.
- Monitor and ensure over coating intervals between each coat of paint
- Ensure environmental conditions (ambient and surface temperatures, humidity, and dew point) meet specifications requirements
- Ensure mixing and thinning meet manufacturer’s requirements
- Check application equipment (pump size, nozzle size, pressure gauge, paint hose)
- During Coating Application inspection:
- Ensure application methods meet manufacturer’s requirements
- Check ambient temperature and humidity, ventilation during drying/curing period
- Check wet film thickness and paint layer defects during paint application
- Post coating Application inspection:
- Ensure the dry film thickness meets specification requirements
- Inspect dry film for holiday (pinhole, cracking and sagging, blistering defects, continuity
- Ensure that defective, damaged, and deficient areas are repaired to meet specification requirements
- Check final paint/coating color, appearances, and shade uniformity.
- Quality awareness:
- Investigating identified quality issues and developing effective corrective actions and measures to avoid future error
- Advising production to improve painting activities such as consumable, tooling, workmenship.
- Issue a Non-conformity report (NCR), quality observation report and outstanding items. Following up when items are done by relative department to close
- Communication:
- Contact with Project team and Technical Service Representative for verification of production activities
- Contact with paint manufacturer for technical advices and troubleshooting when having problem on the site.
- QC documents:
- Maintain inspection reports, coating diary
- Managing all documents work / test report / material certificates
- Manage and store technical acceptance documents
- Education:
- Graduated university, major in Mechanical / Marine Engineering or Bachelor of Technology/Engineering (Production, Mechanical or equivalent)
- Certificate: NACE level II Coating Inspector or other equivalent is an advantage
- English language and computer skills
- Experience:
- Independent working
- 2-3 years related work experience as Coating Inspector
