The Position

OPSWAT is seeking a Software Engineering Manager (Python/PHP and Linux Background) to join our NetTAC team. In this role, you will lead an engineering team focused on the development and maintenance of our established Linux-based NetTAC appliance platform. You will provide leadership and mentorship to team members and work closely with product management and senior leadership for project planning and execution. Additionally, you will play a key role in transitioning our technology to a modern stack over the coming years. .

What You Will Be Doing

• Provide strong leadership and guidance to team of talented full-stack (PHP/AngularJS) and system engineers (Python/Linux), fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.
• Collaborate with product management and senior management teams in the USA to align strategies, set priorities, and drive product development efforts
• Play a key role in building a high-performance team, helping to recruit and mentor talented developers with varied technical backgrounds.
• Maintenance & Optimization: Oversee the daily maintenance of our existing software platform, ensuring system stability, security, and performance.
• Feature Enhancements: Develop and deploy incremental features that enhance platform functionality without disrupting the core system.
• Software Updates & Integration: Update, build, and integrate system software packages, ensuring compatibility and security.
• Python Development: Utilize Python (both 2 and 3) to develop, maintain, and optimize system utilities and backend services.
• Bash Scripting: Develop and maintain Bash scripts for automation, deployment, and system management tasks.
• Database Management: Work with MySQL and other databases to manage data storage, optimize queries, and ensure data integrity.
• Transition Strategy: Contribute to the roadmap and execution of a technology transition over the coming years to a modern tech stack, which will include React for front-end development; Kafka, Go, and Rust for backend services; and advanced data storage solutions such as Parquet, Iceberg, Postgres, and other NoSQL data stores.
• Best Practices & Mentorship: Implement coding standards and best practices while mentoring junior developers on maintaining legacy systems and integrating new technologies.
  
  
  

What We Need From You

• Strong spoken and written English proficiency is required.
• 5 years of experience as a tech lead and hands-on manager, with a strong focus on Linux and Python/PHP.
• Proven expertise in PHP or Python development (both 2 and 3).
• Strong Linux system administration skills, including server management, security hardening, and performance tuning.
• Experience with MySQL, including schema development, query optimization and performance tuning.
• Strong proficiency in Bash shell scripting for automation and system maintenance tasks.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions or other tools, Makefiles and automated testing.
• A detail-oriented mindset with a proven track record in sustaining legacy systems while delivering targeted improvements.
• Excellent communication skills and a collaborative approach to working across multiple teams.
• Strong problem-solving skills with a focus on optimizing and securing existing infrastructures.
• Experience with Agile development and leading Scrum teams.
  
  
  

It Would Be Nice if You Had

• Experience with front-end development with JavaScript or TypeScript.
• Experience in cybersecurity or network traffic analysis is highly desirable.
• Experience in the network detection and response or cybersecurity sectors.
• A forward-thinking mindset with enthusiasm for transitioning to a modern technology stack including React, Kafka, Go, Rust, Parquet, Iceberg, Postgres, and other NoSQL data stores.
