JOB OVERVIEW

We are currently looking for a Database Administratorto join our project team, which is one of the UK’s leading financial and online retail corporations specializing in corporate travel solutions., with annual revenue exceeding £2.2 billion

RESPONSIBILITIES

Database Administration

• Install, configure, and administer PostgreSQL environments across Azure and on‑premises platforms.
• Manage PostgreSQL clusters, extensions, configurations, and version upgrades.
• Ensure reliable operation of databases supporting business-critical applications.

High Availability & Replication

• Implement and maintain PostgreSQL high‑availability architectures (e.g., streaming replication, logical replication, failover configurations).
• Utilise Azure-native HA features for PostgreSQL (Flexible Server HA, zone redundancy).

Backup, Recovery & Resilience

• Design, implement, and validate PostgreSQL backup strategies (physical & logical backups).
• Conduct scheduled recovery testing to verify RTO/RPO compliance.
• Maintain operational readiness through DR/BCP adherence and documentation.

Performance Optimisation

• Perform advanced query tuning and execution plan analysis.
• Optimise index strategy, partitioning designs, vacuum/analyse processes, and workload distribution.
• Monitor system performance using PostgreSQL tools and Azure-native observability platforms.
• Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks proactively.

Security & Access Management

• Implement and maintain RBAC and least‑privilege access policies.
• Manage database authentication/authorisation and secure data at rest and in transit.
• Configure auditing, activity logging, and integrate with enterprise monitoring/SIEM platforms.
• Detect and respond to anomalous or unauthorized database activities.

Documentation & Knowledge Management

• Maintain comprehensive documentation:
• Database architecture & topology
• Configuration standards
• Operational runbooks
• Backup & recovery procedures
• HA/DR strategies
• Ensure audit readiness and support effective knowledge transfer across teams.

REQUIREMENTS

Certifications

• Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate (or equivalent PostgreSQL-focused cloud certification)
• PostgreSQL certifications or demonstrated advanced PostgreSQL administration experience
• ITIL Foundation for service and process management

Database Management

• Strong expertise administering PostgreSQL in enterprise environments
• Experience with Azure Database for PostgreSQL (Flexible Server / Single Server)
• Knowledge of both cloud-based and on-premises database infrastructure
• Hands-on experience implementing PostgreSQL high-availability and replication strategies

Backup, Recovery, and Resilience

Skilled in designing and executing PostgreSQL backup strategies, validating recovery processes, and ensuring disaster recovery and business continuity through RTO/RPO planning.

Performance Optimisation

• Advanced skills in PostgreSQL query optimisation and execution plan analysis
• Index design and optimisation, partitioning strategies, and workload tuning
• Experience with PostgreSQL monitoring tools and Azure-native observability platforms
• Ability to interpret performance metrics and proactively address bottlenecks

Security and Access Management

Experienced in implementing role-based access control, data encryption, and comprehensive database auditing with integration to security monitoring platforms.

Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills

Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve complex technical issues, assess and mitigate risks, and clearly communicate solutions to diverse stakeholders.

Willingness to work rotational shifts in 24x7 or 24x5 services or UK time zone.
