We are currently seeking a highly skilled and experienced Functional Safety Lead Engineer to join our team, specializing in Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) and Autonomous Driving (AD) to EE Design Center Engineering team. Our ideal candidate exhibits a can-do attitude and approaches his or her work with determination. The Functional Safety Lead Engineer will collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify, assess, and mitigate risks associated with system safety. You will be expected to demonstrate excellence in their respective fields, to possess the ability to learn quickly and to strive for perfection within a demanding environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the development and execution of Functional Safety (FuSa) processes as per ISO 26262 and SOTIF (ISO 21448) for ADAS and Autonomous Driving systems.
• Define and manage Safety Plan, Safety Case for the complete vehicle and/or for ADAS L2 and L2+ systems.
• Conduct Hazard Analysis and Risk Assessments (HARA), Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), and Dependent Failure Analysis (DFA) for ADAS L2 and L2+ systems.
• Prepare Functional Safety Concepts with state-of-the-art architectures and concepts for ADAS L2 and L2+ systems.
• Define Functional Safety Requirements (FSR) and /or Technical Safety Requirements (TSR) for ADAS L2 and L2+ systems.
• Review system, hardware, and software safety architectures to ensure compliance with ISO 26262 safety standards.
• Review system requirements - perception, sensor fusion, path planning, and control system architectures to ensure compliance with safety standards.
• Support FUSA verification and validation activities, including Safety Verification and Safety Validation strategy plans.
• Collaborate with in-house or supplier’s hardware, software, and system engineers to implement safety mechanisms and monitor their effectiveness.
• Collaborate with EE and system engineering teams to establish the robust system, safety and diagnostics requirement specifications at vehicle level.
• Provide technical guidance and training on functional safety principles to engineering teams.
• Work closely with certification bodies and ensure compliance with regulatory and customer-specific safety requirements.
• Conduct safety assessments, audits, and reviews to ensure adherence to the defined safety process.
• Organize and lead internal and external FUSA meetings and brainstorm.
• Adhere to organization processes and policies for supporting processes like Change Management, Configuration Management, Documentation Management and Release management etc.
  
  

Requirements

Required Qualifications & Skills:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical and/or Electronics Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related field.
• 8+ years of experience in functional safety engineering in automotive, electronics or related domains.
• In-depth knowledge of ISO 26262, SOTIF (ISO 21448), and ISO 21434 (Cybersecurity) and related safety standards.
• Strong understanding of sensor technologies (LiDAR, radar, cameras), AI/ML safety considerations, and autonomous system architectures.
• In-depth knowledge of UN, NHTSA, and other regulations for ADAS and Autonomous Driving.
• Proficiency in safety analysis techniques such as HARA, FTA, FMEA, FMEA-MSR and FMEDA.
• Experience in Functional Safety verification and validation methodologies.
• Strong background in embedded systems, hardware, and software development processes.
• Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills with the ability to work with tight deadlines.
• Ability to lead and mentor teams in functional safety processes.
• Experience with tools like Medini Analyze, Ansys, DOORS, or equivalent is a plus.
• Functional Safety Certification (such as TÜV SÜD / TÜV Rheinland Certified Functional Safety Engineer) is an added advantage.
  
  

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in ISO 26262 (Functional Safety), SOTIF (ISO 21448) for autonomous vehicles.
• Knowledge of ISO 21434 (Automotive Cybersecurity).
• Knowledge of ASPICE (Automotive SPICE) process frameworks.
• Familiarity with Highly Autonomous Driving systems.
