What you’ll do
Introduction to role
As an IT Helpdesk Intern, you will provide first-line technical support to internal users by troubleshooting basic hardware and software issues, logging tickets, assisting with account management, and documenting solutions within a ticketing system. Under the guidance of the IT Helpdesk team, you will gain practical experience in IT support and problem-solving.
Accountabilities:
1. Incident Management:
- Receive and log technical support requests via phone, email, or ticketing system.
- Identify the nature of the issue through initial troubleshooting steps.
- Resolve basic hardware and software problems, including password resets, application issues, and network connectivity concerns.
- Escalate complex issues to senior IT staff when necessary.
2. User Account Management:
- Create and manage user accounts on company systems.
- Assist with account provisioning and deprovisioning.
- Ensure adherence to security policies regarding user access.
3. Technical Support:
- Provide basic troubleshooting steps for common computer hardware and software issues.
- Install and configure software applications.
- Assist with peripheral setup and troubleshooting (printers, scanners).
4. Documentation and Knowledge Base:
- Document resolved issues and solutions within the ticketing system.
- Contribute to the knowledge base by updating documentation with troubleshooting guides and FAQs.
5. Inventory Management:
- Assist with tracking IT equipment inventory.
- Update asset management system with relevant details.
Essential Skills/Experience
- Basic understanding of computer hardware and software
- Familiarity with Microsoft Windows operating systems
- Knowledge of basic networking concepts
- Excellent customer service and communication skills
- Ability to troubleshoot problems logically and systematically
- Attention to detail and ability to follow procedures
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
Desirable Skills/Experience
- Pursuing a degree in computer science, information technology, or related field
- Prior experience with a ticketing system
- Basic understanding of IT security practices
