Report to: Director of Material Sourcing

Department: HEYDUDE Material Sourcing, Supply Chain

What will you do?

I - PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:

  • The Material Sourcing Manger is accountable for one or more material categories. He or she is to ensure sourcing strategies being developed and executed which can meet to the business needs from key stakeholders. He or she is also expected to develop the key supplier relationship as part of the supplier management.
  • The Global Material Sourcing Manager will monitor the supplier performance and spearhead the regular review of Supplier Classification List. He or she will also ensure the right suppliers are selected for new project introduction to be used in bulk order production. All these will be based on the principle of Total cost of Ownership covering innovative product solutions, high product quality, competitive product cost, continuity of supply and on time delivery and Social Compliance.

II - KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Material Category Management:

  • Utilize Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) principles for optimal supplier management, selection, and development.
  • Continuously monitor market trends, material costs, and other critical factors to develop robust sourcing strategies.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to develop, review, and align material and supplier strategies.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders to thoroughly understand business requirements.
  • Lead efforts in diversifying sourcing options to enhance value, focusing on alternative sourcing, supplier consolidation, and leveraging low-cost country sourcing without compromising on quality, delivery, and compliance.

Strategic Supplier Management:

  • Develop strategic supplier relationships at the executive level, maintaining regular communication through business reviews and other channels.
  • Enhance supplier value through targeted development programs, with the backing of key stakeholders.
  • Address performance issues with underperforming suppliers by working with suppliers on improvement plans and escalating concerns at the executive level.
  • Ensure supply continuity by working closely with Tier 1 shoe vendors and Tier 2 suppliers to manage and escalate supply gaps.
  • Address and resolve critical escalation issues involving quality, compliance, product development, and Tier 1 shoe vendors that significantly impact business operations.

New Product Introduction (NPI):

  • Provide effective and responsive support to Product Development during Concept & NPI process through supplier identification, new material sourcing, Request for Proposal (RFP) and others.
  • Support Product Development to guide key suppliers to translate the design vision into new, innovative material which meet commercial needs of HeyDude brand.
  • Ensure early risk assessment for Material and suppliers selected to reduce potential issues during bulk order production.
  • Update Centric Material Library with information related to materials for new seasons and approved supplier list.

Project Management:

  • Participate in sourcing-related process gap analyses, proposing and implementing improvement initiatives.
  • Lead or participate in project teams focused on system enhancements and sourcing process optimization, ensuring project milestones are met and business goals are achieved.
  • Contribute to sustainability projects by researching and integrating sustainable practices into sourcing strategies.

Low-Cost Country Supplier Sourcing:

  • Serve as the primary contact for sourcing initiatives and supplier management within regions such as Vietnam.
  • Drive regional sourcing strategies in collaboration with other material sourcing managers, identifying and vetting new sourcing opportunities.
  • Conduct prescreening for supplier onboarding and business transfers to ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements.
  • Assist in evaluating tenders and assessing the capabilities of potential new sources in low-cost countries.
  • Support the reallocation of business from existing suppliers to new facilities in low-cost regions, enhancing value and efficiency.
  • Provide support for escalations and work to increase the value-added from existing suppliers involved in business transfers to facilities in regions like Vietnam.

III - DELIVERABLES:

  • Sourcing strategy reports.
  • Strategic Supplier Performance and evaluation reports.
  • Documentation of issue resolutions and improvements.
  • Updates to the Centric Material Library.
  • Risk assessment reports for materials and suppliers in NPI.
  • Project completion reports detailing outcomes versus objectives.
  • Improvement proposals and implementation plans.

IV - INDICATORS (KPIs):

  • Number of Supplier Consolidation.
  • Improvement in supplier performance metrics (quality, delivery time).
  • Number of successful supplier transitions to low-cost countries.

V - KEY ROLE DIMENSIONS:

Key Relationship:

Internal: Social Compliance, Restricted Substance, Costing, Product Development, Product Execution, Finance, IT Teams.

External: Tier 1 Shoe Vendor and Material Suppliers.

Geographical Area: Global

IV - JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Experience:

  • 5+ years of experience in strategic sourcing in footwear/apparel industry experience inclusive of 3+ years with a multi-national brand/retailer.

Knowledge:

  • Understanding of the footwear/apparel materials (including manufacturing process, material properties etc.,).
  • Good networking of well-established vendors.
  • Strong analytical skills and fact-based negotiation skills.
  • Ability to communicate and work in a multi-cultural business environment and drive stakeholder engagement.
  • Direct experience in developing and executing sourcing strategies.
  • Direct experience in material category management.
  • Direct experience in leading cross functional team.

Skills:

  • Excellent Negotiation skills.
  • Advanced analytics and MS excel proficiency.
  • Good professional business ethic.
  • Good communication.
  • Strong Integrity.

Education: College degree or above preferably in shoe and/or footwear materials related.

Travel Requirement: Asia
