SCHOOL OF SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY

The School of Science & Technology at RMIT Vietnam is associated with the STEM College of RMIT University Melbourne, delivering the College’s award programs and developing research in the field(s) of science, engineering and health. Programs currently taught on the Vietnam campus include the Bachelor of Information Technology, Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical and Electronics), Bachelor of Engineering (Software Engineering), Bachelor of Engineering (Robotics & Mechatronics) and the Doctor of Philosophy (Engineering) (Electrical and Electronic Engineering).

KEY ACCOUNTIBILITIES

• Undertake independent teaching at undergraduate, honours, postgraduate level, and corporate training including designing, conducting and moderating assessment, implementing improvements informed by course evaluation activities and student feedback.
• Lead advancement of teaching in the disciplines including the development of new programs, initiating program improvements, improving academic standards, and leading assessment design, conduct and moderation.
• Conduct impactful research and drive contributions to the disciplines at national and international level. This includes the development of successful research teams, leading publication effort of the research teams, identifying and attracting external research funding for sustained research growth, and supervising higher degree by research candidates.
• Contribute significantly to both internal and external University governance and collegial life.
• Adhere to the requirements of the Academic Expectations and Development Framework of RMIT Vietnam.
  
  

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA

• PhD or equivalent Doctoral qualification in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or other relevant disciplines.
• Internationally recognised research profile and credentials in fields relevant to at least one of the five Research Clusters of the School of Science, Engineering & Technology: (1) AI in Health Informatics, (2) Community Health and Wellbeing, (3) Digital Innovation for Environmental and Societal Impact, (4) Emerging Technologies in Education, and (5) Semiconductors and Industry 4.0.
• Significant experience in research leadership, including the ability to form and nurture interdisciplinary research teams, mentor early-career academics, secure research funding, and manage complex budgets and reporting requirements for funded research projects.
• Experience in disseminating research findings to non-academic audiences, including industry, professional, NGOs, government entities and community groups.
• Capacity to influence policy, practice and future research beyond academia, demonstrated through policy citation, government consultation, media citation and media coverage.
• Ability to elevate Vietnam's role in technology adoption, innovation, and research, enhancing global research collaboration and reinforcing RMIT's research standing in the Asia Pacific region.
• Proven teaching proficiency and experience in curriculum development in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science.
• Experience in curriculum accreditation process with professional bodies such as Australian Computer Society (ACS) and Engineers Australia (EA).
• Demonstrated ability to develop higher education programs, implement program improvements, employ innovative approaches to student-centred learning to enhance program quality.
• Experience in student recruitment, utilizing strategic initiatives to attract and enroll a diverse and inclusive student body.
• Significant experience in supervising higher degree by research candidates for research outputs.
• Demonstrated understanding of, and commitment to, University financial, governance and quality management systems.
• Exceptional interpersonal, communication and negotiating skills capable of engaging with senior executives, external entities, and navigating collaborative environments to achieve agreed outcomes.
• Proven ability to perform as an effective member of a management team focused on achieving collective goals and objectives.
• Consistently strong performance in enhancing student outcomes, student experience and feedback; with proven abilities across various teaching settings.
• Ability to operate within, and provide leadership across, multiple disciplines to achieve strategic outcomes.
• Competence in engaging with external partners, industries, organisations and communities, effectively addressing complex issues and identifying opportunities.
• Ability to motivate, influence, develop and inspire team members through leadership in the University and with external partners and stakeholders.

English proficiency requirement

English is the language of teaching and communication at RMIT Vietnam. For this role, the minimum requirement is IELTS (Academic) with a score of at least 7.0 with no competency less than 6.5 (or equivalent, as outlined in the Recruitment, Selection and Onboarding Guidelines).

For Higher Education roles, English Language Proficiency may also be proven by having completed PhD studies while being instructed through the medium of English, and proof of teaching in an English-speaking environment during the previous 24 months.

Work permit

All foreign employees must adhere to the requirements for obtaining a valid visa and work permit in Vietnam. These requirements are mandated by the Government and may be over and above the mandatory requirements and key selection criteria. Work permit requirements are subject to change.
