Job Description

Lead, coach, and manage agile data engineering teams, ensuring high standards for code quality, testing, documentation, and delivery discipline.
Drive agile execution across data platforms, including sprint planning, backlog management, and performance management of engineers.
Ensure engineering best practices across data quality, CI/CD for data pipelines, production readiness, and operational excellence.
Collaborate closely with data architects, product managers, analytics teams, platform teams, and governance stakeholders to align data solutions with business priorities.
Own and execute the data engineering roadmap, balancing immediate delivery needs with long-term platform sustainability.
Contribute to data platform architecture and design across ingestion, transformation, storage, and consumption layers.
Develop engineers into "T‑shaped" professionals capable of working across batch, streaming, analytics engineering, and platform foundations.
Own and prioritize the remediation of technical and data debt, including legacy pipelines, performance bottlenecks, and data quality issues.
Stay hands-on with modern data engineering tools, patterns, and methodologies, particularly within lakehouse and large-scale processing ecosystems.
Be accountable for the end-to-end lifecycle of data solutions, from design and build through deployment, monitoring, and ongoing support.
Drive initiatives to improve data delivery practices through automation, observability, and operational maturity.
Inspire teams through innovation, experimentation, and continuous delivery practices.
Support career development and progression for engineers, partnering with HR on performance and growth frameworks.

The Successful Applicant

10+ years of experience in software or data engineering, with at least 4 years in people leadership roles.
Strong hands-on experience with data platforms built on technologies such as Databricks, Apache Spark, and modern lakehouse architectures.
Deep understanding of data warehousing concepts, dimensional modeling, and analytics-driven use cases.
Proven experience designing, building, and operating both batch and streaming data pipelines.
Solid knowledge of Delta Lake concepts including data versioning and schema evolution.
Strong understanding of data quality, validation, lineage, and observability practices.
Hands-on experience with cloud platforms such as AWS or Google Cloud (e.g., S3, Lambda, ECS/EKS, APIs, CLI tooling).
Experience delivering solutions using formal software development and agile methodologies.
Demonstrated ability to deliver large-scale, end-to-end data platforms or major data initiatives.
Prior experience in regulated environments such as financial services or banking is highly desirable.
Proven stakeholder management skills, with the ability to collaborate across regions and manage competing priorities.
Strong focus on reliability, production stability, and operational excellence, including SLA/SLO ownership.
Experience working with risk, compliance, and audit teams.
Ownership of data platform cost management and optimization.
