About FIG: IFC’s Financial Institutions Group (“FIG”) works through financial institutions to provide much-needed access to finance for millions of individuals and micro, small, and medium enterprises that we would never be able to reach directly. About IFC Upstream & Advisory Services: Providing advice is a critical part of IFC’s strategy to create markets and mobilize private investment. Through this work, we help establish the necessary conditions that will attract the most private capital, enabling the private sector to grow. IFC is shifting to a more strategic approach, systematically linking our advisory programs to the greatest needs identified in WBG country and sector strategies. We will increasingly focus on developing high-impact projects that can help our clients attract the financing they need—particularly in the poorest and most conflict-affected areas of the world.
Scope of Work
The consultant will work directly with the Financial Institutions Group Upstream and Advisory Lead for Mekong Region, providing programmatic oversight and supporting strategic planning for the financial institutions’ portfolio in Viet Nam. This is a holistic role, with projects spanning banking, microfinance, digital finance and payments clients, as well as internal planning, coordinating and reporting. There is potential for role to grow to include Mekong-regional responsibilities.
This role includes, but is not limited to:
Client and Business Development projects:
- Support quality client relationships, ensuring responsive client service and enhancing new business opportunities;
- Support project management including scoping, budgeting, implementation monitoring and reporting (project progress report, supervisor report and completion report);
- Draft Implementation Plans;
- Support business planning and market assessments including focus groups;
- Support the development of high-profile documents such as strategic plans;
- Support procurement of resources such as consultants and technical advisors.
- Review company information and prepare reports on periodic financial statements, project progress reports, and other information submitted by clients;
- Conduct industry and market research and assist in IFC’s business development efforts.
Sector-building activities:
- Support the organization and implementation of trainings and events, including working with the team to ensure invitations to speakers and participants are extended and responses are monitored, venues are procured with necessary equipment and catering, materials are well-prepared and proofread, be available to support and coordinate on site.
Data Analytics:
- Monitor existing portfolio projects as assigned, aggregating data on the portfolio, maintaining spreadsheets and analyzing data;
- Create and work with financial models, as needed;
- Analyze client bank data and information (financial statements, policy documents, and other types of provided data and documents), as needed.
- Analyze historical and projected financial statements, as needed;
- Analyze financial statements and explain financial ratios.
Internal and External Communications:
- Prepare presentations about clients, sector, and business development for internal and external stakeholder meetings;
- Draft, edit and subedit written documents and presentations as required;
- Raise FIG-A’s profile within IFC by proactively pitching and producing reports on Mekong Region FIG-A activities for internal communications channels;
- In collaboration with the IFC team, produce a newsletter and regularly updated program summary about the Mekong Region FIG-A Program, its purpose and progress;
- Record and circulate minutes for meetings, events and panel discussions, as needed.
General:
- Liaise and interact effectively with an extensive network of contacts (both internal and external) and respond effectively to inquiries.
- Maintain a good working knowledge of current advisory and investment operations in Mekong Region
- Demonstrate strong professionalism, maintaining confidentiality and using discretion when required.
Deliverables
The STC will be required to provide monthly progress report on the tasks undertaken as per the above-mentioned scope of work.
Note: the ‘Scope of Work’ and ‘Expected deliverables’ are amenable to changes depending on the initial diagnostic of the client and the absorptive capacity of the client to incorporate and implement recommendations made under this assignment.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or equivalent degree in economics, finance, business or similar;
- At least two years’ work experience in banking, consulting is required (consulting preferred);
- Experience in projects related to finance and services sectors is preferred;
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and sound business judgment to identify issues and present creative and practical solutions;
- Facility to work successfully in multicultural teams and across boundaries;
- Ability to interface well with clients;
- Advanced PowerPoint and presentation skills;
- Excellent writing and oral communication skills;
- Strong attention to detail and quality;
- Native-level fluency in English;
- Willingness and ability to travel (if applicable) and work across time zones;
- Capability of working under pressure to reach the tight deadline.
